I love this game, and play it just about every day, and with most of my free time, so long as I can find others to play with. i find it better than playing solo.

Good computer RPG for ages 9+
I am surprised so many parents find this game "insecure." I don't think it is any less secure vis a vis subscription information than any similar game (Toontown, etc). If they have a customer service issue, that's different, and that I can't speak to. The parent account can control kid accounts if you set it up correctly. And, you yourself can buy the crowns and then transfer to your kids at your own discretion. So if you give them only enough to go on to the next street, they can't buy a cool hat or what-have-you. There is a player vs player section, but free players don't have access to that. As far as the game goes, it is a card-based battle game, so your "character" is drawing a card which then attacks using a fairy or ghoul or something. Your character never waves a sword or punches, so even the violence can barely be characterized as such. IMO, The battle strategy is not particularly intuitive, so younger kids will struggle although still can play. And there's plenty to keep the 9-14 crowd interested as well. The graphics are amazing. If you read early press releases you see that the developers were filling a void between really young games (webkinz etc) and games for older kids/adults (war of witchcraft, everquest or similar). This game does that really well.

Parents Beware... these folks are crooks
I can't say it enough, do not let your kids get roped into this game... sure, there might be free content, but it will suck them in and encourage the kids to upgrade or purchase "crowns" for more play. Our 9 year old son was able to work through the subscription page and entered his sister's debt card information. He racked up almost $225 in charges before we discovered what he had done. It is impossible to call these folks and they only deal with customers via email... causing a frustrating back and fourth that yielded very little results. We tried to dispute the charges as unauthorized, but since it was a member of the family doing the charges, it didn't clear the charges. These folks are crooks... if your kids play this game, use caution and keep a close eye on them.

Clarification of content and security from my last post
Upon further reflection, I feel it important to note that my children (the 7 and 9 yr old...who are actually very close to turning 8 and 10 years old) currently access only the FREE content. (My 5 year old does not play) I can only assume the paid content is as mild as the free content, but I can not say this with certainty. If you plan to purchase further access, I would recommend doing a little research in regards to this prior to purchase. I do want to also make some clarifications as to security. There is no way for "accidental infiltration" of a master account to take place as long as you follow some rules. If you, NOT your child/children, create the master account and set the parental controls, all will be well. Do NOT give your children the master account password or the password to the email address attached to the master account, this would allow them access to make purchases and turn off controls. (you can give them access to play with their OWN passwords via the master account but they do not actually USE the master account...that account is for you, the parent. If your child already has an account, you can still go back and create a master, then add your child as a user to lock down what they can access) If they do not have access to these passwords (master password, and your email password used for the master) they can NOT access any of the parental controls, including making purchases. That said, theoretically they "could" go out of their way to create an additional master account IF they 1) have unmonitored computer time where they could pull this off without your knowledge 2) have an email address you do not monitor or create an email address without your knowledge 3) create a master account without your knowledge 4) obtain AND enter your credit card information without you knowledge. If they do those 4 things, yes, they could get in and do whatever they want. If this is happening, well...that is a topic for another type of forum all together. Also, the only reasons I would not rate this game for the under 7 group is that they may have difficulty with the strategy of the game and you probably would want to limit any violence, even if mild, for the younger group. However, if you have a bright 5 year old who you allow to watch things like Transformers, Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings type stuff...go for it...you won't have an issue with the game as the free section is more mild in violence than these movies.

Not as bad as it sounds and is a good basis for ethics lessons
Lets talk security first. I have seen parents complain about kids buying crowns or subscriptions without permission. This amazes me. I would seriously recommend that you never let your kids get into things without doing your own research first...no matter what area of life we are talking about, and this is especially important in the online world. Second, use these games to your advantage to TEACH your children lessons in teamwork, ethics, character building, and consumerism to help your kids learn how to make the right choices in life. (even if you see little in the way of academic value in this game, it can be a great tool for for these other life skills! This is an often overlooked subject that many kids are never taught.) Third, READ the parent section of the Wizard website...it is FULL of PARENTAL CONTROLS you can set to keep your kids and your accounts safe! (and even tells you HOW to set them.) You can block purchases, you can block people from talking to them, you can set up access for only REAL life friends to communicate, etc. They also have filters to only allow family friendly language or preset phrases you can use. If that is not enough, they have even taken the extra step to give a list of screen names to choose from, so no real life info is displayed online. Personally, I think they have done a wonderful job with security! Now lets talk content. It is rated 10 and over for crude humor and mild violence. (so far I have only seen fart talk, which lets face it, kids find hysterical. I assume the battles are the violent part...no blood or guts though. No worse that kids out playing "Star Wars" in the front yard with their pop up lightsabers.) Quite frankly, I have seen worse on Sponge Bob! I do not really find it to be a problem for my children. I have yet to see anything that I find "too old" for my 7 and 9 year old. (though I am still keeping my eyes open just in case!) So far so good. If you are okay with things like Harry Potter, you will not have issues with this game. It is the classic good vs. evil plot line...and you are on the good side trying to help "save the day." For this style of game, it is the most family friendly I have personally ever seen.

horrible company
THEY ARE THIEVES AND TAKE MONEY FROM THE CHILDREN. THEY CHARGE $80 FOR CROWNS. MY CHILD WAS ABLE TO INFILTRATE BUYING CROWNS AND RAN UP A HUGE BILL. THE SITE NEVER NOTIFIED ME SENDING THE EMAIL TO THE WRONG ADDRESS. WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY INSISTED I PAY THE $985 DOLLARS EVEN THOUGH HE HADNT USED ALL THE CROWNS. ALL THIS FOR SOME VIRTUAL RIDICULOUS GAME WITH INADEQUATE CONTROLS AND FALSE ADVERTISING REGARDING PRICE. ALSO, THEY WON'T TALK ON THE PHONE ONLY COMMUNICATING BY E MAIL.

NO PARENTAL CONTROLS according to company
This company has no parental controls. Without my permission, my 10 year old took my credit card and charged $80 (the annual fee) three times in a row, buying tokens of some sort. He some how pretended to be me, and set up his own parent confirmation. The company emailed me saying that "Currently there's no known method to validate a "real" parent vs. a child impersonating a parent" The company refuses to give my money back or to acknowledge their responsibility. BEWARE --- not a very good company. The game is now banned in my home.

e.g.Imagination rulls kids,teens,not so much
This game is great for a kid who has a big imagination for fantisy worlds and magical cretures so if any open minded kid is looking for a mistical game they might want to check it out and for teens it might be to kidish for you but still try it out.

Love the game the battles are great! The biggest problem with this game is the consumers. The people who play on the game regularly participate in being on-line bullies and make you unpopular for being nice. The fan site is filled with adults who complain about everything and create a very negative atmosphere.

Just fine for my little gamer.
My 5 year old plays this with Mom & Dads help.He loves it becasue Dad and cousins have older versions he is not allowed to play. He feels like a big kid and although he can't read all the things and he needs a little help he feels like he is so grown up. We have a family plan and his cousin who is a few yrs older plays from Florida and they play together. I love the safety of it. He is not allowed to receive messages from anyone except his cousin and seeing as he can't read it all yet I am there to help him. Maybe I am wrong but for us I don't even feel like it is too violent. Sure we limit him on the computer period but he looks forward to playing at night after his little brother has gone to bed and he has Mom and Dad alone.

Seriously, this is one of the better games to play for family fun. It's easy and fun. I know a 40-year old who still plays it. Some of the minigames help improve reactions and puzzle solving, such as matching and short-term strategy. The main wizard, Merle Ambrose, shows a definite difference between good and evil with his opponent Malistair. However, you can go to a school of death, giving you access to dark things like skeletons, "heckhounds", and helephants. ALl I need to say about the violence is that it's pretty violent. Like the MMORPG AdventureQuest violent.

Fun game, until you meet the marketing
I tried this game because my little brother was playing it. We played together and had some fun. However, being used to chatting in MMOs I was a little turned off when I found out I had to subscribe to chat : ( But still It's lots of fun, but you know how if you don't pay they say it's the free trial that lasts forever? Well, that's half true. Eventually every single one of your quests will lead to areas you need to buy with in game money you get with real money. So yeah, you can enjoy a little PVP and fight some dungeons, but unless you pay you can't do anything else. Also, the areas get more and more expensive as you get further on. I spent a little money on this game myself, 750 crowns a place, 5 dollars for 2500 crowns, not bad. Then, I got to Krokotopia where every single place is 915 crowns, and I said "Heck no!" So play it because it's fun but DO NOT spend more than five bucks on it, you will regret it.
