What parents need to know

Parents need to know that THE 39 CLUES MADRIGAL MAZE is connected, in plot and theme, to the 39 Clues book series. The books have their own website, which is intricately tied in to the plots of the novels -- and this game ties in to the website as well. While the game can easily be enjoyed by kids who've never read the books, it is obviously intended for fans of the the novel series. The target age of 9 is about right but if your kids are younger, be aware that the app has imagery of vicious dogs attacking the player's character repeatedly throughout the game.

  • Navigating the mazes gets trickier and more challenging as the game progresses through its 39 levels, but the increase in difficulty is gradual, allowing players to build up their skills before they tackle harder mazes.
  • You can be hit by rolling boulder or caught by vicious barking attack dogs. When these things happen, you see your character fall down and the words "You've Been Caught" appear. All the action is viewed from a top-down (i.e., birds-eye) perspective.

Is it any good?

You don't need to be a fan of the associated book series in order to like The 39 Clues Madrigal Maze, but if you are, you'll be excited by the way the plot to this game builds upon the story in the novels. But even as a stand-alone game, Madrigal Maze is still great. The way the challenge level gradually increases, allowing you to learn as you play, is very well done. And there's a good deal of variety among the 39 levels -- some mazes are purely races against time, others involve dodging guards and dogs, others ask you to puzzle out a series of switches that need to be unlocked in certain orders. Aside from a bit of scariness with those attack dogs, this game is incredibly well designed for its target demographic.

Good for older kids but a higher difficulty.
This A fun puzzel game app that is worth the $0.99. It also gives the user a special card for the online game. A word puzzle to unlock a secret and the chance to be a Madrigal. All and all i think this is a good purchase.
