What's It About?

In 50 States, kids use their fingers to scroll through statistics for each state, or they can select individual states geographically by tapping on a map of the U.S. Kids can also search for specific information by typing a query into a search box, which brings up the relevant state.

50 States doesn't score many points for presentation, but the straightforward app does exactly what it sets out to do by providing a learning tool and handy pocket reference guide for anyone wanting to look up information on specific states. The quizzes add some fun and interactivity to the app, but they're presented as a never-ending list of randomly-generated questions, so it's more difficult for kids to gauge their overall aptitude or use their results to measure improvement.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Help your kid design a personal flag using symbols that have meaning to him or her. The state flags can serve as inspiration!

  • Explore the history of your own state in more detail. What was it like to live there 100 years ago? 200 years ago? Have kids predict what it will be like to live there in the future.
