What parents need to know

Parents need to know that The Adventures of Peter Pan is an animated storybook app that tells a very abbreviated version of the classic Peter Pan tale. In this version, there are no Indians or mermaid, and the majority of the fighting is omitted as well. In fact, Hook doesn't even try to kill Peter -- he just tries to kidnap the Lost Boys and make them join his crew. There is one animated scene, however, that shows a flashback of the crocodile leaping from the sea to snap Hook's hand into its jaws. Also, be aware that there are many links on the home page that allow you to purchase other app books; disabling in-app purchases on your device will prevent surprise purchases.

  • The app is simple to use; enjoying the story should be no problem for young kids.
  • A sword duel between Hook and Pan is mentioned, but not acted out visually. There is one scene, though, in which you get to see an animated memory of Captain Hook losing his hand to the crocodile. It is quick and bloodless.

Is it any good?

THE ADVENTURES OF PETER PAN offers a pretty nice presentation, with excellent narration and several animated scenes. It all flows smoothly and looks great, but doesn't provide too many opportunities for direct interaction. In a way, the experience is almost more like watching a show than playing with an app. And parents looking to introduce their kids to the rich, full legend of Neverland may be disappointed by just how abridged the story is.
