Parents need to know that Another Monster at the End of This Book...Starring Grover & Elmo! is a sequel (in both its app and book forms) to the Sesame Street classic, The Monster at the End of This Book. In that first story, Grover begged readers not to turn pages, so as to stay away from the monster at the end -- which turned out to be him. In this follow-up, Grover goes through the same problem, but this time with Elmo taking the opposite stance and goading kids to keep turning pages.
Kids can learn vocabulary, following directions, and emotional awareness with Grover and Elmo in this ingenious storybook app. Certain words are highlighted as they appear on the book's pages. By following directions, kids help Elmo turn pages that Grover has "blocked" with obstacles like glue and paper clips. Listening to emotionally charged interchanges between an excited Elmo and an anxious Grover helps kids learn empathy and identifying emotions, as well as conflict resolution as the characters negotiate a solution. It's a fun story that shows emotions kids can identify with in real life.
In this creative and funny book app, kids listen in as Grover and Elmo banter about whether or not to see the monster at the end of the book. Grover is afraid, while Elmo is eager. As Grover puts obstacles like paper clips and blocks up against the pages to prevent Elmo from turning them, Elmo asks kids to help him break through those obstacles and turn the pages. The end result is sweet, funny, and very Sesame Street-wise in teaching kids about understanding emotions, negotiating solutions with friends, and being brave.
ANOTHER MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK is a very nice follow-up to a Sesame Street classic. The story is genuinely humorous and well-acted by real Muppet voices in this app. And the interactivity has been woven in seamlessly. When Grover builds a wall of blocks to stop the page from turning, for example, kids can not only knock down those blocks, they can also move them around to build whatever they want. When Grover tries to paper clip the pages together, kids can help Elmo by pulling and tossing those clips. It's a whole lot of fun.

Elmo and Grover prompt kids to do certain things -- crack a color code or erase glue, for example -- that help move the storyline along and turn the pages. Every page has some way that kids can either interact with the page or learn something through observation or a prompt given by a parent. The storyline itself gives kids lots of opportunities to reflect on friendships and different emotional styles when dealing with scary situations.
