What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies is an action shooter based on the popular and hot-selling console game series. The app, like the video game, is a march of violence, though the app is less graphic due to visual restrictions of the platform. There's mild offensive language as well as a few choice words that parents might struggle to explain to kids, but this is not a game kids should be playing in the first place. With the violence and the horror aspects of the zombies, it's unsuitable for young players. Users can share high scores via the Game Center social network, but participation is optional.

  • A brief tutorial at the beginning of the game runs players through the basics, but the screen is so littered with buttons that it's often hard to remember exactly which to press.
  • The game is a nonstop march of death and destruction, with wave after wave of undead Nazis attacking you. Players shoot zombies with pistols, shotguns, automatic weapons, and grenades (among other tools). Blood shows when enemies are hit, as do body parts on some shots -- and the screen is tinged with red as you're attacked.
  • Not applicable.
  • Frequent mild cursing such as "damn" and "hell" and the use of unique offensive language, such as "flesh whores" (one soldier's pet name for zombies).
  • The game is an offshoot of the popular Call of Duty franchise and meant to drive players to the more expensive console version. Other apps are also advertised from the main menu, including the subscription-based Call of Duty: Elite.
  • Some privacy concerns. Players can opt in to Apple's Game Center to track scores and achievements, and for some games, challenge friends. Players can send and receive friend requests using an email address or Game Center nickname, revealing the first and last name associated with each party's Apple ID and, in the case of email requests, the sender's email address. With iOS 5, players can opt to have a private or public profile, which can include a photo. With a public profile, your real name is visible to all other players, and Game Center will recommend you to other players using your real name. With a private profile, only your friends can see your real name, and Game Center will not recommend you to other players.

Is it any good?

Activision has made billions of dollars off the Call of Duty franchise, but if more games were like CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS ZOMBIES, this is a series that would have died off long ago. The game is average, at best, blending the series' shooter roots with a sci-fi/horror themed zombie mode. And while that's a fun mix on consoles, it falls flat here, with less-than-inspiring gameplay, complicated controls, and no real sense of originality.

Diehard fans of the series might enjoy it, especially the multiplayer modes, but newcomers will wonder what all the hype is about.

Fun, Addicting
This is a fun game. Although there are some bad things. But it is much more appropriate than the real game.

It's not bad!
This app is MUCH different to the Call of Duty for Xbox, PS3, Wii etc. First of all, unlike the console version, there is less blood, gore and language. Second, the World at War version of Zombies is slightly bloodier than Black Ops. This game is suitable for 10 and up, not 17+!

May be to intense for younger kids.
This is a really well made and well put together game, but there is some pretty intense action that may be to much for your smaller kids. Personally, I think it was a little of an over reaction on common sense, (not for kids), and itunes (17+). There is some blood, but it's not very realistic, and your not fighting other human's. Your fighting things that are already dead. Be that as it may, your child may love game's like this, but if he is a dog lover, don't let him play this game, undead vicious dogs will attack you also which you do have to shoot. Even though they may be trying to kill you, it may be disturbing for younger players and is primarily aimed at teens. To be honest, I havn't heard any language at all, so I don't know what's up with common senses 4/5 on swearing. To be honest, I like the creepiness of this game, it's makes it more enthrawling and intense. It's an amazing game with amazing graphics. Havn't experienced any problems with multiplayer on my ipod yet.

Seriously Common sense not for kids
The language is not a problem at all. But if you play online like I have there is voice chat so someone is bound to start cussing. The violence is against zombies!!! It's not even that bad, the worst you see is a zombie arm flying and it's not very realistic.

Great, but overpriced
Well, I have this game and it's nothing to get worked up about. Sure, limbs fly all over the place but its a game with bad graphics on a tiny iPod screen. Perfect for 10+ (one more thing, its 7 FREAKING DOLLARS!!!!!!!!! way too expensive, I wouldn't buy it until its fully updated with all maps)
