Parents need to know that Doodle Jump: HOP The Movie is very similar to the regular Doodle Jump app but has been heavily branded with characters and designs from the movie Hop. E.B., the bunny rabbit from the movie, stands in place of the regular Doodler character from Doodle Jump. E.B. automatically keeps hopping while kids tilt their device to steer the hops. The goal is to get to the top of each screen, capturing the egg. Difficulties are encountered along the way such as evil chicks, moving platforms, or disappearing platforms -- all of which can cause E.B. to fall from the screen with a whistling sound. The Hop Easter theme is carried throughout, with pastel colors, Easter eggs, candy hearts, baby chicks, and so on. There are 25 levels to play, each one unlocking after the previous level is completed.
DOODLE JUMP: HOP THE MOVIE -- like the original Doodle Jump app -- is a game in which each level can be just frustrating enough to keep players coming back for more as they try to finish each level. There are no instructions, which can also cause frustration, but the intuitive gameplay quickly gets kids up to speed. When hopping and leaping to climb up the screen, it's very easy to miss a platform, which often causes bunny E.B. to fall, ending the level. The main character from the original Doodle Jump game joins you at the beginning of the first level, but isn't really a part of this game version. The choices on the main screen make it very clear that this game is a movie tie-in, but the gameplay itself is pretty solid and stands on its own.
