What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Find Them All: Looking for Animals is an educational search and find app where kids look for one animal at a time, by name, image, and sound. The sun in the corner guides kids to find animals around the farm. Once they are all found, additional games are available including tapping the animals quickly before the sun goes down, taking photos of the animal scenes, and assembling jigsaw puzzles of any of the taken photos. As part of the jigsaw puzzle game, kids shake the device to create the puzzle. Once kids find all 12 included animals or once they have taken 12 photos of animal scenes, they can print or email a booklet of these images. Kids can see their collected animals in the Card section, and their photographs in the Album. This app has an option to buy additional animals as an in-app purchase, but that option can be turned off.

  • The interface is very intuitive and the searchable area gets larger gradually as each round progresses. Kids can unlock special abilities once they complete certain tasks. The guiding voice is occasionally hard to understand, especially when she says "owl" and "pond". During the puzzle creation phase where kids shake their device to determine the number of puzzle pieces to create, the force with which the device is shaken doesn't appear to correspond to the number of puzzle pieces created. The app can be used in English or in French.

  • This app has the option to make in-app purchases, though it is possible to turn this on and off in the settings. The default setting is "off". Additional games can be purchased from the main menu such as Animals of Africa and Animals of Oceania, but the original game stands on its own.

Is it any good?

FIND THEM ALL: LOOKING FOR ANIMALS is an animal-based game where young kids can hunt for animals in a scene by sight, sound, and name. The animal sounds get louder as kids get closer to where the animal is in the scene. Each time kids play, the farm setting is arranged slightly differently, and a different subset of animals are to be found. Kids also get to play several minigames. Throughout, a voice describes what kids are supposed to look for, what other options are available, and the instructions for the given activity. The voice mispronounces some of the words, but it is still understandable. This game has a simplified search-and-find premise, since the animals are easy to find.
