Parents need to know that Up with a Fish is a fun mobile app based on the imaginary game that the Cat in the Hat plays in the classic Dr. Seuss book. Just as the Cat does in the book, you'll need to balance an increasing number of items -- cakes, umbrellas, teapots, etc. -- on top of one another as the Cat tosses them up into the air. Here, you'll also need to avoid the mischief-making Thing 1 and Thing 2, who scream as they fall past and try to knock down your stack of stuff. Your game ends when you miss three fish bowls, which break with a shattering glass sound as they hit the floor.
There's not much to UP WITH A FISH -- you just keep catching things onto an increasingly large, precariously balanced pile of junk -- but it's bizarrely exhilarating and a whole lot of fun. The idea of taking the made-up game that the Cat in the Hat plays in his book and turning it into a mobile app is pretty brilliant. It's the perfect kind of game for an iPhone, played by simply tilting the device back and forth. Up with a Fish is proof that incredibly simple games can still be amazing fun when they're produced as a quality app.
