What's It About?
Users first set up a free account by providing a username, password, and email address. They snap a photo or select one from their camera roll and record audio using the device's built-in microphone. Photo editing options include a number of effects such as stickers and filters as well as standard editing tools (crop, contrast, brightness, etc.). Users can share a link to their photo via Facebook, Twitter, email, or text message. Shared photos live on the user's Fotobabble website profile page.
Is It Any Good?
FOTOBABBLE differs from other photo sharing apps because it infuses pictures with the energy and emotion of voice. Teens may post talking photo status updates on Facebook or Twitter, but imagine sending audio postcards describing travel adventures or emailing singing greeting cards to family and friends. Teachers could use Fotobabble to make talking flashcards to teach foreign language vocabulary or to differentiate instruction for a variety of learners, such as using audio flashcards to help special need students learn life skills and identify emotions. Kids could even make talking slideshows about a field trip, science experiment, or an afternoon hanging out with friends.
Some things in life are better suited for video or still photos. But if a picture says a thousand words, then adding voice to it with Fotobabble can create an even more captivating and memorable experience. Just be sure teens are aware of the privacy issues with this app and understand the responsibilities and consequences of dealing with social media.
