What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Green Eggs and Ham makes a smooth transition to digital form -- and all kids (and parents) love about this classic book is here in the app. For younger children, the interactive version is one they can enjoy along with a parent or on a car ride. And for children who are learning to read, it's a good educational tool, letting them tap words on the screen for prompts when they get stuck.

  • This is an app that just about anybody can use. Page turns require just a swipe of the finger -- and it's easy to follow the text since words are highlighted as they're read.

  • While there aren't any ads in the book itself, the app does have a page dedicated to Oceanhouse's other apps based on Dr. Seuss' works, with one-click access to the app store to buy them.

Is it any good?

GREEN EGGS AND HAM is an impressive, loving adaptation of the children's classic. It brings the book to digital form in whimsical fashion with easy-to-grasp controls and well-voiced characters. Oceanhouse Media has previously successfully transitioned several Dr. Seuss works into apps, including One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and The Cat in the Hat, and they haven't lost their magical touch. As good as the app is, though, some kids (and parents) will still prefer to have mom or dad read the book to them.
