Parents need to know that Hamlet or the Last Game without MMORPG Features, Shaders and Product Placement is an offbeat adventure game that actually has very little to do with Shakespeare's famous play. Hamlet's plan for revenge against Claudius -- the usurper who killed his parents, stole the crown, and kidnapped his girlfriend -- is derailed when a time traveler's spaceship crash-lands right on top of him. With Hamlet down, players step in as the time-traveling hero to stop Claudius and rescue Ophelia. The game contains some cartoon violence, but no gore, and devilishly difficult puzzles. An HD version is also available for the iPad.
HAMLET is an unorthodox take on Shakespeare's Hamlet with puzzles that include playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with a pirate monkey, battling a giant octopus, disabling Polonius' high-tech security system, and defeating an electric guitar-toting Claudius in a boss battle. Puzzles can be as simple as figuring out how to walk from one end of the room to the other by interacting with the environment, but they can be extremely challenging and border on the ridiculous at times. Hamlet is certainly a game that marches to the beat of its own drum, and as a result you'll be chuckling at its humor and creativity one minute and cursing some of its more inscrutable puzzles the next. Regardless, this off-kilter ode to one of Shakespeare's most famous plays is nothing if not creative and fresh.
