What parents need to know

Parents need to know that How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a digital version of the classic Dr. Seuss children's book, whose message teaches children that the true meaning of Christmas is found in peoples' hearts rather than in material trappings. The Grinch tries to stop Christmas by stealing all of the Whos' presents and decorations, but after the Whos begin to sing joyfully on Christmas morning anyway, the Grinch has an epiphany, returns the gifts, and joins in the celebration.

  • Pages are turned with a swipe of the finger. One mode lets kids read out loud, and if they need additional help they can touch a paragraph to hear it read out loud. There's also a fully automatic mode where kids can watch and listen to the entire book being read to them, almost like a mini-movie.

Is it any good?

HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! offers many fun ways for kids to interact with the story digitally, but it's not the strongest Dr. Seuss app in the library. The male narrator's British accent is questionable, and the illustrations don't always change with each page turn, which affects the story's pacing. It's still a great app with a lot to offer, including the original illustrations from the book.
