What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Kid Mode: Kids Games + Videos can transform your Android into a kid-friendly phone for even the youngest app enthusiasts -- if you set the lock and filter options correctly. The app is the mobile companion for the Zoodles kid browser. Different options and levels of access can be set for multiple kids to customize games, videos, and access to your phone's other apps. Watch for in-app purchase options. Adobe Flash is required for a number of features. A similar app called Kid Mode by Zoodles is available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, but it does not have a games section.

  • The toolbar is simple for young app users. The Parent Dashboard is also self-explanatory and clearly explains how to set the different levels of child protection locks and filters. Some games and videos are unable to be played if the phone doesn't have Adobe Flash, and sometimes loading times are quite long.
  • There's a violence filter that can be set for each child who plays apps/games on your phone. The filter clearly states the types of violence at each level a parent can choose to filter -- some aggressive actions rank a level 1, visible weapons such as cannons or darts are level 3. No overt, adult-oriented violence is allowed on any games on Kid Mode.

  • The premium membership ($3.50/month) is promoted. Some features, such as recording yourself or your child reading a storybook, have one free option but the rest of the storybook options must be purchased ($2.99) to play.
  • To use the app, you need to create a free account and include your name, your child's first name, and his or her birth month and year. A photo of your child can be uploaded to the account, but isn't required. The app has excellent filter and lock options, but they're not automatic. Parents need to set many of these options and filters, including the most basic ones, such as choosing which apps on your phone your child can access.

Is it any good?

Many parents want to hand their smartphone to their kids to keep them busy in the grocery checkout line or the car, but there's the lingering worry that kids will tap on something inappropriate or mess up the phone in some way. KID MODE: KIDS GAMES + VIDEOS helps protect your kid and your phone through many filter and lock options, as well as kid-friendly game, video, storybook, and art options. But parents have to use the Parent Dashboard to make this app truly effective; it can be managed from the Zoodles website. Glitches and crash reports vary by Android model.

Great Game !!!!
Love this app. Great cause you can go to parents dashboard to set a child lock, so kids can not leave app without the parents help !

Great option!
This is a great app with variety so my kids are happy no matter what! They customize the content per age so my 7 yr old has different things than the 4 year olds!
