Parents need to know that Ladybug Girl is a storybook app based on the bestselling book of the same name. In the story, Lulu -- dressed as Ladybug Girl -- wants to play baseball with her brother and his friends. He says she is too little, so Lulu has to entertain herself. Nothing inside the house interests her, so she heads outside with her dog Bingo and has plenty of adventures as Ladybug Girl, observing and interacting with nature. The app includes a game, Lulu's Lots and Lots of Costumes, where kids can dress Lulu in a variety of outfits. When they are done, kids choose a background scene and with help can email a black-and-white or a color version of their creation to a friend.
LADYBUG GIRL is an enjoyable, animated storybook of decent length with interactive elements. Kids will have fun searching each scene for interactivity. The additional dress-up game gives kids something they can save or email to people. In both reading modes, the words are highlighted as they are read, but kids can't tap on the words to have them repeated, or even spoken when they read by themselves. Still, the book has a good message and the artwork is very whimsical and playful.
