What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Megaplex Madness - Now Playing HD is a time management game in which players tend to customers' needs in a movie theater. Players direct customers to the appropriate concession stand, arcade game, and theater screen based on icons that appear over the heads of each customer. Efficiently and correctly guiding customers to their correct spot through the course of the game earns money, which can be used to upgrade the theater, allowing players to customize it to look exactly the way they want. Players can also purchase new machines for the theater's arcade, and can actually play those arcade games when managing the theater becomes a bit too arduous and they need a break. A similar app in standard definition is available for the iPhone and iPod touch.

    The point-and-tap controls in this time management game are executed well, and it makes for a fairly easy and intuitive experience. Players have to juggle their time efficiently to tend to movie theater guests, who occasionally come in in droves. It can be difficult to manage all the customer service tasks that need to be accomplished at any given time, but players with a keen eye for detail and logic should be able to catch on pretty quickly.

Is it any good?

 

MEGAPLEX MADNESS - NOW PLAYING HD is a very well executed time management puzzle game, particularly because of how well the real-world moviegoing experience translates to this genre. Customers enter the theater to buy a ticket, head to the concession stand, spend some time at the arcade if they're early, and then find their correct theater number. This multistep experience is a perfect fit for this kind of game, and it is done very well here. There is a veritable treasure trove of upgrades for players to buy with in-game currency, from ultimate popcorn machines to wall decor. This encourages players to keep running through day after day, in order to build the most spectacular theater they can imagine. The addition of arcade-style mini-games is also a nice touch.
