What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation is a violent, mature game that is entirely inappropriate for young players. The game features nonstop, realistic violence and glorifies kill shots. The language is harsh, and the plot line -- which shows battles in familiar places and talks about a nuclear explosion in Chicago -- is intense. The Gameloft Live! opt-in feature allows players to connect to strangers, including the ability to text chat online with others. This review is based on the iOS version of the app; the Android version may have differences in functionality.

  • The controls for the game aren't explicitly explained and take a little time to figure out, but once you've done that, they're fairly fluid. The game allows players to choose their level of difficulty -- from easy to nightmare.
  • There's nonstop violence in the game, with copious amounts of blood. When your player is shot, the screen turns red with blood splatters, and head shots of enemy soldiers are often shown in slow motion. Players can also slit enemy throats with knives. The game's weapons include automatic rifles, C5 explosives, and grenades.
  • Not applicable.
  • Along with the expected "hell" and "damn," characters regularly use words like "s--t" and "f--k".
  • Not applicable.
  • Some privacy concerns. Players can sign up for the Gameloft Live! service, an interactive network that requires personal information such as a valid email address. Within this service, you can connect to buddy lists, email inbox, and a list of supported Gameloft games. A live communication feature allows users to potentially chat (via text) online in various forums with strangers.

Is it any good?

Gameloft's latest homage (or, if you prefer, blatant rip-off) of the Call of Duty series might lack originality, but it has some impressive gameplay. MODERN COMBAT 3 is definitely inappropriate for children, due to its realistic and frequent violence and overly harsh language, but adults who enjoy combat games set in the modern era will quickly embrace the game. The artwork is incredible -- detailed and vibrant -- and competes well with the most visually impressive apps. And the action is well-paced.

The single player mode is pretty straightforward -- walk, crouch, shoot, repeat. Fun, but not something you'll likely return to once you finish. The multiplayer mode, though, is very well done, with six maps and seven modes, supporting both online and local wi-fi. This gives the game legs and could keep it alive for some time. Even with its high price tag, this is a game that adult action fans will consider a bargain.

Best iPhone and iPad game ever!
Gamer Stuff: Awesome game! Graphics are superb and comparable to Infinity Blade and Real Racing 2. The controls are easy to use and you can even move all the buttons around to fit your style. Easily worth £30 on a console. Parental Stuff: Ok, there is alot of violence and ALOT of swearing but it just depends on the child in question. If they chuckle when, on the news, it says about a murder, take a moment to think. However if your child is sensible and mature then let them play. There is a GORE switch in Settings>Advanced and that gets rid of all blood and you can skip the cutscenes. The swearing has set subtitles that cannot be removed but as long as a child knows it is a swear word (sounds crazy) and it is bad, they won't end up saying to a teacher,"I'm sorry my homework was complete s**t", it's ok. Ok for 10 plus.

Pause for 13 and under
Great, great game. Very expencive though, and VERY, VERY salty language. Blood is noticible but nothing compared to the game Team Fortress 2.

Excellent
A tad too much in app purchases, but other than that, its great! While the campaign is a little difficult, (even on easy) the online play can be punishingly difficult for beginners.

Lot's of language, but pretty easily avoidable.
It's an AMAZING game. Incredibly good graphics and intense, captivating gameplay. There is however, quite a bit of language which is currently set down in to subtiltes that can't be turned off. (this might be fixed in a future update). There is blood, gore, and even dismemberment when a enemy is killed with an explosion. For example, if a enemy is in the blast range of a grenade, there leg or arm, or both will fly off with a spray of blood. but this can be switched off in the options menu. If your a parent who doesn't aprove of any language whatsoever, you could have your kid just play the multiplayer, (the swearing is only in the campaign mode because of the storyline and characters.) Or you could just have them turn the sound off. The subtitles are very easy to ignore in the intense battle sequences, and you can skip the cutscenes. They probably hear worse things at school every day!

Great game, iffy language use
This is basically a great game with frequent use of "F**k" and "S**t." The violence is minimal is you compare it to today's M rated games. So here you go, Kid can play M = Get it! Kid can't = Don't. Sorry for the lazy review, I just got it when it was on sale for 99 cents.

Great Game - with action and violence required, blood and swear words shown
Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation is an app that you can download on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android and Kindle Fire. Lots of violence in this game. Each time you kill someone, blood is shown. The characters also swear a lot (subtitles are shown). An excellent game for teens and adults.

Great FPS
Has lots of swearing. Has an F word in the first five mins. Blood can be turned off. campaign is ok, multi-player is way better. If you like CoD you will like MP. Right now it has a glitch where you loose you xp/coins (to buy stuff) after each game you play on MP. wait until this has been fixed to buy it.
