What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Mr.Oops!! is a quick-thinking game. The character is placed on a grid. Before each round, a set of arrows shows where a set of boulders, laser blasts, or cannonballs will be fired. Move the stick figure before the blasts occur, and he'll be safe. If not, he'll shout, "Oops!" as he's flattened or disintegrated. Each round continues for as long as you survive. After three rounds, you'll receive your final score, or move on to a power round. This game moves very quickly. Younger kids will be able to handle the mechanics, but aren't likely to be able to make fast enough decisions.

  • This is a very simple game that requires moving a figure on a grid with your finger. It starts easily, but ramps up quickly in difficulty.
  • The premise of the game is to help Mr. Oops avoid lasers, stone boulders, and iron cannonballs that are fired from the walls. If you make a mistake, he's flattened or disintegrated. The character is a stick figure, so it's not particularly graphic. There is no blood in the app, although there is an in-game add-on purchase that adds blood to the game.

  • The main menu includes a link to the publisher's website, where you can purchase additional games.
  • Some privacy concerns. Players can opt in to Apple's Game Center to track scores and achievements, and for some games, challenge friends. Players can send and receive friend requests using an email address or Game Center nickname, revealing the first and last name associated with each party's Apple ID and, in the case of email requests, the sender's email address. With iOS 5, players can opt to have a private or public profile, which can include a photo. With a public profile, your real name is visible to all other players, and Game Center will recommend you to other players using your real name. With a private profile, only your friends can see your real name, and Game Center will not recommend you to other players. The app also allows you to share scores with Twitter and Facebook, but those are accessible only with a username and password.

Is it any good?

There isn't a lot of depth to MR.OOPS!! It's the same gameplay throughout, and it's just a matter of adapting quickly to the changing arrows before the boulders, cannonballs, or lasers shoot through. But for some reason, it's hard to stop playing. You always think that next time you'll be faster and your score will be higher. If you enjoy working your reflexes, this is a nice little app.
