What parents need to know

Parents need to know that My Fairy Princess is a simple dress-up game that allows kids to change the fairy's body, dress, shoes, tiara, wings, and background by tapping on the item in question. There is no menu of objects to choose from, so kids will need to keep tapping until they land on the object of their choice. The fairies have one dance move - a sort of pirouette - that is obtained by a finger swipe across the screen. There is no way to save outfits. The game includes fairies with different skin tones to appeal to a wide range of girls.

  • The controls are simple, but the only instructions are graphics that are somewhat vague. Most children won't realize that they can change the background by shaking the device unless they do it accidentally. Also, the swipe move required to make the fairy princess spin can be tricky. It's easy to do it by accident, but can be challenging to do it on purpose.

Is it any good?

MY FAIRY PRINCESS has the basic elements of a fun dress-up game, but doesn't follow through. You can choose dresses, shoes, crowns, and wings for different fairies and change the background by shaking your iDevice. But, the inability to do more with the fairy than cause her to spin in a circle and the lack of a save option will likely leave your child wanting more. After scrolling through the outfits once or twice, kids will likely find themselves asking, "Now what?"  Also, this is an expensive app for what you get.

This is my daughter's favorite app
This is my 2 year old daughter's favorite app. I have several dress up apps on my iPod, but this is the one she always picks. I'm surprised this site only rated it 2 stars. To say all she does is spin is not true. She has different moves for every article of clothing that you tap. And I'm glad there's no scroll menu since my daughter gets frustrated with them in other dress up apps. With this app, all she has to do is tap anywhere on the screen, and something always happens.
