Parents need to know that Pete and the Secret of Flying is an interactive fable. It tells the make-believe story of how birds discovered that their wings were good for more than just preening. Pretty much every illustrated bird in the book can be tapped to trigger a fun little animation. The story is appropriate for all ages. In addition to this version, there is also a separate version for the iPad with higher resolution graphics and a higher cost ($1.99).
PETE AND THE SECRET OF FLYING reads like a modern version of old Kipling fables, the kind of stories that provided fantastical explanation for animal behavior. Here, kids will get a mythical tale about how birds learned to fly. It's a cute little story, made more enjoyable by the interactive animations. Some are very imaginative, like a scene in which you can use your finger to shield a baby bird from falling raindrops. And once he learns to fly, you can steer Pete all around the screen. You can even make him fly off one side of the screen to reappear on the other.
