What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Pocket Legends is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORG) game that is played on iDevices for free. Players get two areas which equates to several hours of game play for dowloading this free app. Once they are done with the free areas, kids will have to pay for new adventure areas which fortunately are not expensive at about $2.00 each. Parents also need to know that since this is an MMORPG, that kids will play online with others and have the ability to openly chat with strangers. Kids can also play against each other by selecting the PvP (player against player) games.

  • Game play is a matter of tapping on the iPhone or iPad.  Tapping with the finger to move and access different menus. Instructions are short and the help menu and tool-tips are intuitive and helpful.
  • Players have to kill things to advance in the game. The characters are cartoon animals, and enemies are zombies and such, but when hit, cartoon blood does fly, although bodies fall over and disappear quickly.
  • Not applicable.
  • Since this is an online game for adults, kids will be able to see offensive text online.
  • This is a micro-transaction game and kids will be able to see that some things cost in-game gold, while others cost the points bought by real cash.
  • Although the app itself won't share your information, Kids can "friend" anyone who asks. Creates some personal safety concerns. This online game allows chat and kids can exchange personal information online easily. However, private solo or groups games can be easily set with a password.

Is it any good?

In POCKET LEGENDS, kids play as a bear (warrior), an eagle (archer), or an elf (enchantress) and explore dungeons and forests. They take on quests from towns folks to find lost items, and to help protect the town and forests from brigands, zombies, trolls, and other assorted monsters. Designed to be played in short sessions, Pocket Legends is very easy to pick-up and learn. The characters and animations are cute and engaging in a cartoon style. The beauty of Pocket Legends comes in the game choices. Kids can play solo by creating a new game and locking it with a password and then only allow their friends into the game if they have the password. The game requires an account and password, so parents can choose to set the game up in this manner before letting their kids have their iPhones/IPads. The same goes for the Player vs. Player (PvP) games, in that kids don't have to play against strangers, plus they can skip this option completely..

BEST APP EVER! (they actually won an award for that)
This app is the BEST iPad mmorpg!! I play it all the time and it's my fave app. You can play free until a certain level then you need to buy another campaign, but trust me, it's worth it! It is a MUST HAVE app for mmo lovers! It really isn't that violent. You just shoot glowing/firey balls, arrows, or bash a sword around. When you hit the enemies there is NOT blood. It's not built scary at all like it says in the review. When you kill an enemy, they just fall down flat then leave the screen. GO DOWNLOAD IT NOW!!!!
