Parents need to know that The Poky Little Puppy is an interactive adaptation of the classic Little Golden Book of the same name. It is the story of a litter of naughty puppies who continue to dig under a fence and explore the world despite their mother's protests -- and one particularly sneaky pup who always manages to sneak late-night treats after his siblings have been put to bed without dessert. The disobedient dog gets his comeuppance in the end, though. There's a lot of fun and educational interactivity on every page, as preschool readers are asked to identify different animals and objects in the illustrations, as well as count them and note their colors. Bonus "stickers" are awarded for correct answers and those items and characters can then be played with on a sticker book page.
Is it any good?
This interactive edition of THE POKY LITTLE PUPPY works as both a wonderful read-along (with crisp, enthusiastic narration well-suited to a preschool audience) and as a fun educational game app. Each page poses challenges like, "Touch the Poky Little Puppy's tail," "Touch three white flowers," or "Touch the gray puppy." In doing so, kids are playing much more than just a scavenger hunt -- they're testing their counting skills, color recognition, and knowledge of body parts. The sticker book section also makes a great reward system.
