What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Snoopy's Street Fair is a simulation game based on Charles M. Schultz's beloved Peanuts characters. The gameplay itself is fine for all ages, but parents need to be sure they've restricted in-app purchases in their settings, since kids can buy in-game currency if they know the iTunes password for the account being used. Prices for this can range up to $100. The urge to buy real currency is high, too, since earning enough money through in-game achievements to meet your goals can take hours. This is a so-called "velvet rope" app that is appealing to younger players through both its cartoon tie-in and its ease of use. The app allows for players to visit friends' fairs, but to do so, they need to connect the app to a Facebook account. Users can also share high scores via the Game Center social network, but participation is optional.

    The Peanuts characters are all franchises in their own right, but the real cautionary note is this game's not-too-subtle pushing for players to use real-world dollars to buy in-game items. Packages range from $5 to $100 and can quickly add up. Players can earn the money in real time, but will often have to play for hours to get the cash required for items. In addition to this, there are links to other games from the developer as well as to other Peanuts games on the main menu screen.

    Some privacy concerns. Players can opt in to Apple's Game Center to track scores and achievements, and for some games, challenge friends. Players can send and receive friend requests using an email address or Game Center nickname, revealing the first and last name associated with each party’s Apple ID and, in the case of email requests, the sender’s email address. With iOS 5, players can opt to have a private or public profile, which can include a photo. With a public profile, your real name is visible to all other players, and Game Center will recommend you to other players using your real name. With a private profile, only your friends can see your real name, and Game Center will not recommend you to other players. Players can also visit friends' fairs through Facebook.

Is it any good?

 

SNOOPY'S STREET FAIR is positively charming and does a good job of utilizing the familiar Peanuts characters to create a fun, simple simulation that can engage players of all ages. It also boasts lots of extras, like collectible cartoon strips that never get old. However, the fun qualities are quickly overshadowed by the game's aggressive way of encouraging players to buy in-game currency at high real-world prices. It's quickly obvious that this is an app that's much more concerned with separating you from your money than it is about providing enjoyable memories. It also encourages you to recruit friends from Facebook or Game Center to join you as you play.

This Ponzi scheme-like marketing is old hat in the world of Facebook games -- and has even been done before in the app store -- but being nickel-and-dimed every time you start to have fun quickly can take the wind out of your sails.

Its okay but some iffy language & consumerism
This app is really fun but lots of people probably spend a fortune on Snoopy Bucks. And sometimes, when you click on what people are thinking in their head, they might use the word "stupid" and one time, someone thought "hey, there is no (some person) vs. the hellbenders volume 1.?" Some it has some bad language and lots of consumerism.
