Teddy's Day
Is It Any Good?
TEDDY'S DAY has some of the more imaginative interactive elements that we've seen in ebook apps for young kids. Aside from the typical hot-spot animations that can be triggers (most of which are truly adorable), kids can take over for the protagonist as she builds a jigsaw puzzle -- literally piecing it together within the illustration. And there's a scene in which the young girl is drawing pictures, which leads kids to a virtual sketchpad where they can make their own crayon pictures -- and then hang them up within the illustrated room of the book! Being able to actually add to the book's illustrations is a really neat and exciting feature. The story itself -- about a young girl who spies on her teddy bear, hoping to catch him coming to life -- is a sweet and likable tale. The app's only real flaw is the lack of highlighting on the text, which would have made it a bit easier for new readers to follow along.
