What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Temple Run is an action game that draws inspiration from the chase scenes in the Indiana Jones movies. Players can die in a variety of ways, from being killed by a pack of monkeys to running off a cliff or bashing their head on a low-hanging branch, but there is never any blood or gratuitous violence. In-app purchases are available, though not aggressively pitched. And players can earn in-game credits, rather than buying them, if they're patient. Users can share high scores via the Game Center social network, but participation is optional.

  • The game is very timing based, which takes a while to learn. As it progresses, things speed up, making it even more difficult to master.
  • In Temple Run, you are chased by a pack of screaming monkeys. If they catch up to you, you'll become a "tasty snack" for the monkeys. Similarly, players can die by running off a ledge, running into a tree, or failing to slide or jump in time. The app has no blood or sounds of suffering.

  • Additional characters and power-ups can be purchased via in-app currency. This is earned in game, but players can also purchase it with real-world money for $1 to $20. A link from the main menu also advertises other games by the publisher.
  • Some privacy concerns. Players can opt in to Apple's Game Center to track scores and achievements, and for some games, challenge friends. Players can send and receive friend requests using an email address or Game Center nickname, revealing the first and last name associated with each party's Apple ID and, in the case of email requests, the sender's email address. With iOS 5, players can opt to have a private or public profile, which can include a photo. With a public profile, your real name is visible to all other players, and Game Center will recommend you to other players using your real name. With a private profile, only your friends can see your real name, and Game Center will not recommend you to other players.

Temple Run wasn't created with educational intent, and we don't recommend it for learning.

What's it about?

Temple Run players run in an endless (and ultimately fruitless) attempt to escape angry monkey-creatures. Swiping the screen from side to side turns corners, while swiping backward or forward causes your character to jump or slide under obstacles. It's not an advanced game, but rather one that tests the player's reflexes.

Is it any good?

There's not much to TEMPLE RUN, but it's very good at what it does. The game is a fast-paced racer and it does a good job of relaying that urgency. While there's not really a story, there's no need for one, as it's a reflex game that keeps players on their toes. That means you'll die a lot, but it's never an incredibly frustrating experience.

The game does offer in-app purchases for upgrades and new characters, but doesn't force them down your throat like so many other apps do, which is refreshing. It's possible to earn the credits for those items, but it will take a bit of time -- though since the game is so addictive, that might not be the chore it sounds like.

Awesome!
Great game that will get you addicted! It's so much fun to see how far you can go and unlock new characters. It does have a touch of violence, but when you die it is in a comical way and there's no suffering or blood or anything. It's a great game and it's free!!

Fun, addictive game!
I love this game! I usually don't like apps, and get bored with them quickly, but I love Temple Run! It's addictive and engaging, though may be hard for younger children. I only gave it 4 stars, because they pressure you to purchase coins. Other than that, it's great!

good and violent, dont let youngsters
i think that this is good. i love the game. it has deaths, the man falls off of the bridge, gets eaten by (frightening for some) monkeys, he gets beheaded, and more.he also makes these strange sounds while he is running. whenever he dies he makes an "ahh" sound if he is falling off of a cliff, or when getting eaten by an aligator, often when he runs into a tree he makes a "ufff" sound and when he run into fire you can hear flames.also there is a skull thing and you get rapped in skulls. So this is a precaution

8 and over :)
This is a great game for kids. How ever they have a store where you can buy stuff for your player. You can also buy stuff from the store without earning points. You can also bump in to things and fall while getting chased by monkeys.
