What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this collection of off-the-wall text messages deserves its 17+ rating. Supposedly submitted by real people, the texts are mostly about sex, drinking, and getting high.

  • There's not much to this app, just a collection of texts you can display by most recent ("last night"), best ("top nights"), or random. Tap on an individual text to leave a comment, or submit your own text for possible inclusion.
  • Not applicable.
  • Many texts talk about having sex. Men call women sluts, and women text about performing fellatio.
  • In addition to run-of-the-mill swear words such as "s--t," "damn," and "f--k," vulgarities are used to describe various sex acts and male and female body parts.
  • Not applicable.
  • Numerous references to weed, getting high, getting drunk, puking, passing out, alcoholism, drugs, and hangovers.
  • The stated goal of TFLN is to reveal human nature while protecting privacy. The app requests only an area code as a means of identification. However, it doesn't screen for minors, so any teen could submit an embarrassing text and find it featured on the TFLN iPhone application and Web site the next day.

Is it any good?

Did you have a wild night texting while a) having sex with your roommate's girlfriend, b) getting wasted or, ideally, c) both? Then Texts From Last Night wants to add your submission to its growing collection of the wacky messages people send each other while misbehaving. This flimsy entertainment app based on the Web site of the same name is not very funny and often mean spirited. The comments sections are sometimes more profane than the texts themselves. This app isn't for kids -- or most adults, either.
