What parents need to know

Parents need to know that There's a Wocket in My Pocket is the book app adaptation of Dr. Seuss's wacky book of the same name. The story is narrated by a boy whose home is filled with all sorts of crazy creatures, most of whom are very fun and friendly (though there are a handful he doesn't like for one reason or another). It's one of Seuss's shorter books. Early readers should find it easy to read along with the highlighted text and can benefit from tapping items in the pictures to learn how those words are spelled.

  • The app is extremely easy to use. Very simple directions show kids what to do if they can't figure it out themselves.
  • There's one slightly scary image of an unknown creature under a rug in a dark room.

Is it any good?

As with all of the Dr. Seuss adaptations by Oceanhouse Media, THERE'S A WOCKET IN MY POCKET offers up stellar production values and excellent educational features. However, there are no animations for kids to trigger. The narration is top-notch, and the camera direction is thoughtfully planned out (the view pans from point to point in an illustration, revealing new parts of the image at the best possible moments). And it's always great for blossoming readers to have the ability to tap any word or picture to hear it spoken and see it spelled out. This book is a quickie by comparison to other Seuss books, but also one of the more fun titles.
