What parents need to know

Parents need to know that TRIVIAL PURSUIT Master Edition for iPad is an iOS adaptation of the popular board game. Users can play solo or with friends via table-top play or wi-fi multiplayer, but not online. The game offers several add-on question packs via in-app purchase and markets them fairly aggressively. The questions, though, are likely to be much too hard for young children. Some users have complained of crashes, but we did not experience this in our testing.

  • Learning to play the game is simple. Questions are presented in multiple choice format, and rolling the dice is done by flicking the screen. Mastering the questions, though? That's where it gets hard -- too hard for young players.

Is it any good?

TRIVIAL PURSUIT MASTER EDITION FOR IPAD certainly has all the elements of the hit trivia franchise, but while the game can be an uproarious good time in the real world, it's a bit restrained in the electronic world. That might be due to the looping, ever present soundtrack, which seems tacked on.

On its merits, though, it has all the right ingredients. Q&As are peppered with visual questions to shake things up a bit. And the game automatically shows you all of your move choices once you roll the dice. The questions come in three difficulty levels, but are too hard for younger children, who are likely to get upset and frustrated quickly.
