What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Where's My Water? is a casual puzzle game in which players must clear obstructions from a sewer system in order to deliver clean water to the shower of Swampy the Alligator. Swampy is an unusual alligator because he acts like a human and loves to be clean, a trait that the other alligators find contemptible. This underlying story is played out in a fun, cartoon style, and even though there is conflict, it does not come across as mean-spirited or hurtful.

  • Because this is a unique kind of puzzle game, the controls are not instantly accessible, but the small learning curve makes this game easy for most players to be able to pick up and play. The puzzles increase in difficulty as players progress through the game, but for the most part it is a matter of trial and error that players will eventually be able to figure out as long as they have the time and willingness.
  • Some of the levels use bombs to blow up surroundings. When poison water gets on rubber ducks, they quack and disappear, with skulls flashing briefly on the screen. If it gets on Swampy, he yelps and hops out of the tub.

  • A button on the main menu encourages players to purchase more app content from the same publisher.
  • Minor privacy concerns. Players can opt in to Apple’s Game Center to track scores and achievements, and for some games, challenge friends. With Game Center, players can send and receive friend requests using an email address or Game Center nickname, revealing the first and last name associated with each party’s Apple ID and, in the case of email requests, the sender’s email address. The main menu has links to the app's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Is it any good?

WHERE'S MY WATER? has all the elements needed for a captivating casual puzzle game -- a unique and differentiated style of gameplay, a fun and cute visual presentation, and a creative storyline to tie all the puzzle levels together. The gameplay mechanic of getting water from point A to point B while navigating around the myriad blocks, bombs, and obstructions is challenging and captivating, and the story of Swampy, the alligator who acts like a human, is funny and engaging enough for players to want to complete each level to advance the story. In short, it is a great game that any player, young or old, will be able to enjoy.

Ages 4/5 with help...older kids will do fine
The lower levels are easy enough for 4/5 year old but as you progress, parents will have to help with the logic and reasoning of choosing moves. Still, it is a great app that will have your child thinking about the best course of action. This app works for solitary play if your child is a bit older.

Fun Game for Kids and Parents
My almost-five son and I play this game together, and talk about how to solve each of the puzzles. While some of them are difficult even for me, he often comes up with good ideas for solving, and we'll try our ideas out until we get it right.
