What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Villains are evil, Batman is conflicted.
  • Violence:

Some violence is harshly rendered, with sharp, fast editing.
  • Sex:

Romance is implied (one kiss); one "playboy" excess scene, with girls in a pool.
  • Language:

"Damn," "hell," "ass," "a--hole," "crap," etc.
  • Consumerism:

    Fictional advertising.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Some smoking, drinking, and hallucinogenic drugs effects.

What Parents Need to Know

About Batman Begins

Parents need to know that this movie features hard and fast violence, martial arts and shootings conveyed through dark, abrupt, sometimes scary imagery. Less cartoonish than the Spiderman and X-Men movies, these scenes are loud and rough. The caped crusader's origin story includes the murders of his parents, his ensuing depression and attempt to shoot the shooter, martial arts training and fighting, frightening subjective images brought on by hallucinogenic drugs, brief debauchery (drinking, smoking, and swimming-in-a-hotel-fountain with vacuous starlet-types), an even briefer kiss with his romantic interest, a faux drunken speech, and some raucous driving in a seriously armored Batmobile.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about Bruce Wayne's relationships with various father figures, including his biological father (who is murdered), his martial arts trainer, his butler, and his gadgets-maker. They might also consider the distinction the film sets up between vengeance and justice. How does Bruce put his anger to use for the "public good"? How does the film differentiate between "good" and "bad" uses of violence?

    Definitely not a children's movie

While I like this movie, I have to say that it is indeed very violent, with some rather intense martial arts scenes and shootings, and disturbing scenes with one of the villians, Scarecrow. I thought that the movie was well acted and well planned out, though it was a good deal darker and harsher than a lot of other superhero movies.

    GREAT!!

This was almost as good as the 2nd batman but definitely not as violent. I thought it was a lot scarier than the 2nd one, even with the joker!! Scarecrow is TERRIFYING but nothing a mature 11 year old can't handle. More complicated however and it is harder to see the close u violent parts of the movie.

This is a good movie: My favorite

This movie is really good and one of my absolute favorites! The role models are fine, and the story is great. Its about overcoming your fears. Language could be a problem, but is mild compared to many things out there. No F or S words. Some call this a "dark" movie, but its really only because Batman works at night. The main violence or scary problems would be the images the drugged people see. For instance, a man that looks like a creature's face with worms and bats crawling out. Or an ugly looking Batman. Violence is really mainly punches and wrestling. Gore only includes a bloody shirt and some scratches. The main sexual content was a seen with some girls in strapless dresses, who later on jump into a decorative pool with Bruce Wayne (this is a playboy seen) Other then that it is a great movie, I love the characters, and the story is amazing the way it is put together.
