Parents need to know

Parents need to know that this film includes repeated crude references to sexual activity and desire. These jokes range from sexual activity in fast-motion to the magical remote posing as the protagonist's erect penis. Violence is broadly comic, including a couple of scenes where the protagonist "freeze-frames" an adversary, then beats or kicks him, as well as some falling and slamming of children (the protagonist runs over a child's toy on purpose). The film pushes the envelope on PG-13 language, including one pronounced f-word and another that's cut off (after "mother").

Families can talk about the film's "message" concerning the value of family and interpersonal relationships over work and career. They can also talk about why Adam Sandler's brand of raunchy comedy is so popular. What is the appeal of a movie like this?

Message

Social Behavior:

Though he reforms by the end, Michael is selfish, crude, and calculatedly cruel throughout, picking on rivals, children, and his boss.

Consumerism:

Vendors named or displayed include: McDonald's, TiVo, Staples, Best Buy, Bed, Bath & Beyond, TGI Friday's; products (named and pictured) include: Hostess Twinkies, Yodels, and cupcakes, Bose, Chuck Taylor high-tops, Cup Noodles, Speedo, Lucky Charms, Coca-Cola.

Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco:

Wine, liquor, and beer drinking, cigar-smoking; references to drugs (acid, crack, marijuana, morphine), image of someone smoking hashish.

Violence

Injuries played for laughs. Michael kicks Bill in the crotch repeatedly and slaps his boss in the face; someone says he wants to slit his wrists; someone wants to use a sword to cut his "d--k off" a heart attack leads to frantic pain for Michael.

Sex

Sight gag has remote "erect" under Michael's pants; repeated jokes/images of dogs "humping" stuffed animal; reference to "porno," jokes about Michael's "shmeckel," fast-motion sex shown as shadow; allusions to "boobies," a jokey office lecture about sexual harassment includes reference to one as a "slut" Michael slows a jogger to watch her breasts bounce; Jeanine is repeatedly "horny," gag about a woman who undergoes a sex change; Michael tells Marty he doesn't "play for that team" (thinking he's being seduced); jokes about Britney Spears having her 23rd baby and a cloned Michael Jackson "molesting himself."

Language

Multiple (more than 10) uses of s-word; several uses of "ass," one f-word; one cut-off "holy motherf-----r" and one obscene finger gesture; repeated use of "shmeckel" (baby Michael's penis); lots of other profanity.

What's the story?

Reviewed by Cynthia Fuchs

In CLICK, ambitious architect named Michael (Adam Sandler) doesn’t spend enough time with his wife, Donna (Kate Beckinsale) and two kids. Pressed into yet more overtime by his obnoxious boss Ammer (David Hasselhoff), Michael finally becomes desperate and agrees to take home a magic "universal remote" from the obviously odd Morty ( Christopher Walken), a mad-scientist-type technician who's hidden in a back room in Bed, Bath & Beyond (the room is marked "Way Beyond"). Morty has changed Michael's options: The remote allows him to fast-forward, rewind, search by chapter, and freeze-frame his life. Soon he finds himself short-cutting more than an occasional argument with Donna or a long work weekend, and skips entire years, at which point he learns the costs of ignoring his family, his health, and any semblance of a moral conscience.

Is it any good?

2
Goofy and crude, Click is one more Adam Sandler movie where he learns the same lesson again. If you've seen any other Sandler comedy (especially others also directed by his buddy Frank Coraci), you know what this lesson is: He must grow up and appreciate the beautiful woman who forgives all kinds of childish behaviors.

While the point is clear enough, it's so blatant and comes at such a high price – putdowns, relentless childish jokes about sex (including one involving a dog repeatedly "humping" a stuffed duck), not to mention an extended fart joke -- that you feel rather battered by film's end. Some of the physical antics might amuse tween boys, but the crude material makes even that seem too costly.

Best Movie Ever?

I loved this movie! It has a great ending. I cried throughout. But it has a graet message. i strongly advise that if your child is under 14...watch it with them. This movie is full of innapropriate material. But it's a great movie and if you haven't seen it I strongly advise that you do!

Made me sad

This is such a COOL premise! We really wanted to like this movie more than we did. Adam's snide humor and the juvenile jokes and "violence" (slapping, running over toys with cars, crotch-kicking) were to be expected, and some were funny. However, they were aiming at heartwarming, and got it. But the layer of mean-spirited jokes and jabs at fat people and women who were any less than Barbie-doll beautiful took the life out of it for us. There was an awful lot of sexual humor that went over our son's head (10), but he got the running gag about the dog h*mping the stuffed toy. The futuristic styling was cool, but the plot was all downhill. Of all the funny and interesting things Adam Sandler could do with a "Universal Remote," his character chose to throw his life away. I suppose what we got out of it was a new conversational gambit: "What would YOU do if you had a 'Universal Remote'?"

Sandler Comedy Is GREAT. FUNNY. SAD. HAPPY ENDING

This movie is fine for kids if you think that they can handle iffy sex themes, adult themes (iffy), mild language. I suggest this movie for kids ages 13+ and I give it a green flag, meaning age appropriate while this movie showns the importance of caring for and loving your kids and wife and it also teaches that you should be careful about what you do in your life because unlike this movie, you can't take it back, if it is out there, then it is out there for good; permanently. Take pride in your life, wife, kids, mom's and dad's while you still have them. The cycle goes your born, you live, you die and you can't change it. GREAT MOVIE THOUGH!

13 and up

i left the theater wanting to be better it really inspired me to b nicer to my family. Sexual is wife ad him hve anal we presum but the only thing my 13 and 14 year old thought they were just having sex. It was 1 second literally but they make a reference to it before tey hve it, a dog repetedly has anal with a puppet duck, and references are added. Violence comic get serious at the end. Language foul one f word and partial hand gesture. A 13 yer old should see it the first half is comedy the other half is a straight out drama some of you wll cry it get dramatic and Adam Sandler wishes he never mae those horrid decisions in his life. You''ll get a feeling of happiness at he end I guerentee nd it wll make you want to be kind. The Message tells you that people make mistakes but if you go far yor life will crash on you so be prepared and love your family.

Completely offensive for all ages

I am not an Adam Sandler fan most times but I wanted to give this movie a try because I thought the story-line would be interesting. I was appalled by everything in this movie and to be honest I shut if off half way through I found it so painful. I have to say I am not usually one for crude humor but what disturbed me most was how far the film went under the category "crude" - not only outrageous and excessive in its references to bodily humor (which I could have survived) there were numerous scenes in this film that were outright offensive to Women, Asian and Arab people (see the "sexual harrassment lessons," and Sandler's business meetings with "global" clientelle). I felt so disgusted at the idea that a thirteen year old child would watch this. This movie should have been rated R - for being crude and socially offensive to any person who was not a white male.

Funny.....for adults only

Certainly not a PG-13 movie! This should have been R for all the sexual content and language.

Ok.

It was pretty good. It had crude humor, but I like that kind of thing. The overall message was really good. It's more of a teen movie than anything, but if your child is mature, it probably wouldn't hurt for someone as young as twelve to see.

They ruined another one

Unfortunately a good story was somewhat lost in the crude jokes, language and sexual content. I wish Adam Sandler would realize there are lots of people who would like to enjoy his movies if he would stick to something clean!
