Why We Rated This on for Ages 8 and Up

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Characters are shown facing their fears and not giving up -- presented with a strong Christian focus, which will be appealing to some and not to others. Another lesson: don't seek someplace new to follow your dreams, but "bloom where you're planted."
  • Violence & scariness:

Lots of tackling and football-related violence, but nothing graphic or bloody. Coach Taylor forces his player to push past pain even though he keeps saying he hurts.
  • Sexy stuff:

Brooke takes pregnancy tests. Grant finds out he's infertile and the couple talks about infertility.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

    Ford trucks are heavily represented.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Facing the Giants

Parents need to know that characters face adversity, like poverty, infertility, and generally not getting what they want. But the characters also succeed and face their challenges head-on. The film is heavy on scripture and religious revivals, which may or may not complement your family's religious leanings. For instance, students cry in religious fervor and Coach Taylor makes an example of one team member by forcing him to carry another team member on his back across the football field even though he's in pain.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the pressure boys and men face to be strong no matter what. Does that pressure help or hinder Coach Taylor in his daily life? What do you do in your family to deal with that pressure? If Coach Taylor is under pressure to support the family and make his team win, what role does his wife play? Is it fair to put that much pressure just on men? Viewers may also want to discuss your concept of faith. Does it match what you see here? Why or why not?

    Christian Movie With No Faults

They showed this movie to my church and my fourth grade classroom. It is a wonderful movie with great acting and a positive message of never giving up. I couldn't love this movie any more, and it touches my heart every time I watch. If I could, I would love every Christian to watch this movie at least once in their lifetime. I love it that much.

    It doesn't matter your faith

Our entire family loves this movie! Our children range in ages from 8-4. It's a great movie about faith and the amazing things God can do whether you win or lose! It is a very inspirational movie and we always cheer even though we know how it ends.

    Nothing is Impossible for God

This is a wonderful film for anyone, though younger kids might get bored. A very inspiring and motivational story. We need more films like this one.

THis movie is fantastic for both Christians and NonChristians. It shows a great message about trusting in God to handle our problems and that God never fails us when we have faith.

Great Movie, with a good motive...

Facing the Giants is a movie with a lot of heart that i haven't seen in a long time. It is a movie that has absolutley nothing wrong in it at all, and has good religious morals. It is a fun movie for the whole family to watch, but i wouldn't recomend it for a child 8 and under, not because of the language, sex, or violence b//c again there is none of that, but because of some of the situations in the movie, little children may not be able to understand.

How could they rate it PG

First off, the Pg rating was a big mistake. Dont be fooled, its not for the ferility talk, its mostly because of the christian message, because of how some people dont like the media praising god, ( which the media should ). There is nothing wrong with this film. I would recommend it, and Flywheel ( also by the same creators) to anyone and everyone. These are the films that are to spread christianity and I support them.

A must see picture... get tissues!

This movie gives real fact about Christianity: faith & trust in God; a need to have a personal relationship with Jesus in order to live succesfully; not matter the circumstances: worship God because He is worthy; and the fact that prayers work.

    Instant Favorite

Excellent Christ centered movie! My husband and I cried through most of it. I rated this movie appropriate for as young as 2 years old because the content is fine to view in the presence of very young children. The complete message of the film likely will not be fully comprehended by very young children. We will definetly make sure to show our kids this film again when they are both around 6 years of age so that they may fully grasp the lessons this film so execellently demonstrates.

    Awesome Movie

I think PG is ok. It's football so there is some hitting on the field. But nothing that you don't see all the time in a real football game regardless of the level. So for me it's a G. For kids 8 years and up it gives all the right messages you want them to get as a parent.

great catalyst for religious conversation with your kids!

Although we are not "born again" Christians, we are very religious and are raising our children in a christian community. We loved being able to talk to our kids about the faith of others. It was good to show them that there are very faithful people in all religions, even if we don't fully agree on all doctrines. This movie made all of our children giggle (ages 2-12) and it opened up the door to a religious conversation afterwards. We loved it, it was a good wholesome movie for our family, which are hard to come by these days!

I've teared watching some movies, I cried watching this one!

The most amazing movie I've watched this year! You don't need to be a football lover to watch this movie, but it sure makes you wonder where your faith stands with GOD. This movie also shows how GOD could perform miracles through you. Great Movie! A must watch.

    Great Movie

The movie is one of the best moral movie I have seen. It has moments were you may cry and laugh. My newphew was touched and got closer to his dad (he is 8 years of age). Well worth seeing.
