Younger children won't be interested, but older tweens and teens will enjoy tame humor and smart writing. It is work to be admired for the comedy and work put in by Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. I enjoyed it. The only concerns are schoolyard words "scr**ed", "s**ks", etc, but nothing too awful.

What Parents Need to Know
This review of Freaky Friday was written by Nell Minow
Parents need to know that kids use rude schoolyard words ("sucks," "blows," etc.). Anna wants to get the side of her ear pierced, and when she is in her mother's body, she does. There is some kissing (the ew-factor of Ryan's wanting to kiss Tess, not knowing that Anna is occupying her body, is handled with some delicacy). There are some tense family scenes and the movie deals with issues of parental control and teen rebellion.
Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about why it is hard for Tess and Anna to understand each other at the beginning of the movie. If the parents and children in your family switched places, what would be the biggest surprises? Families may also want to discuss some of the choices Tess and Anna make, especially the resolution of Anna's problems with her English teacher and the honors exam. And it might be nice to compare this to the original movie, in which the mother is a full-time mom in a two-parent household, and the daughter's challenges center around housework.

What’s the Story?
In the third version of the book by Mary Rodgers, Jamie Lee Curtis plays Tess, a compassionate therapist and a loving, if harried mother of two children. Her husband died three years ago, and she's about to be married to the devoted, understanding Ryan (Mark Harmon). Lindsay Lohan is her daughter Anna, who, like most 15-year-olds, thinks that she has both too much of her mother's attention (when it comes to telling her what to do) and not enough (when it comes to knowing what's important to her, which she thinks Tess should just be able to intuit, since Anna doesn't really want to tell her anything). When the two of them get into an argument at a Chinese restaurant, the owner's mother gives them magic fortune cookies. The next morning, they wake up as each other. While they figure out how to return to their own bodies, each has to spend the day living the other's life.

Fun, Funny, and Sometimes Genuinely Touching...
FREAKY FRIDAY is a studio's nightmare. The sucess of the movie rides completely on the strength of the two main performances. The script and direction mean nothing if those two actors aren't cast perfectly. Lucky for us, they were. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan are perfect in this movie, believable and very funny. Also, there's little objectionable material. There is no language, only some crude terms like "sucks" and one use of "h*ll" ("makeover from h*ll"). There are some mild, harmless innuendos that will go over kids' heads, like when Mark Harmon's character causes Curtis to trip over a couch, and her dad says "save it for the honeymoon". No violence, drugs, or negative role models. Quite the contrary, actually. While both mother and daughter act immaturely to begin with, they each act out of love towards the end.

Better than the book.
Finnaly, a girl movie that I could watch. The body switching made for a very interesting and funny adventure. If only all girl movies were this good.

I think this is okay for older teens. Anna isn't a good role model for younger kids.

Proves good movies for parents/kids are possible!
Thanks to help from CSM rating, I dared to take my 7 year old boy. He had no problem following the identity switch and was delighted with the ensuing action. I had many a good laugh and so did all age groups seated around us. Everyone should see this, but especially moms and daughters. How can I express my gratitude for a clever and entertaining movie I can actually enjoy with my kid and recommend to others without hesitation? Kudos to the makers of this film-- we want more like it! I agree with the PG rating for language, but it is mild and no worse than the (uncalled for!) potty humor in Finding Nemo.

This is a fun movie that almost anyone will enjoy!
This movie really shows the daughter that their mom's lives aren't prefect and the mom that the kid doesn't make their life look hard, it just is. Any kid will enjoy this movie ages 5-13. Enjoy!

Cool movie! Great actors and a good message!
This is a funny movie with a good message about how you might not really understand other people, but when you realize what it's like to be in their shoes you can really get a good look at what it's like to be them.

FREAKY FRIDAY- Great fun!
FREAKY FRIDAY was a great funny movie. I haven't seen a better performance from Jamie Lee Curtis in years. Sex- 4: I know you're probably thinking why did I give a "CAUTION" on sex, but I found there were some sexual references but not anywhere near explicit. Nudity-1: A brief shot of Jamie Lee Curtis in a thong. Violence-0 Drug Use-0 Language-4: Some brief moments of language. Diversity/Racism-2: Over-stereotyped Asian character Scariness- 0 Commercialism- 0 Rude Humor- 0 My Rating: PG for some language/sexual references and thematic elements

Laughed so hard...
Went to see this opening afternoon with my 12 year old. We both laughed until we cried and then laughed more. This movie is wonderful! Jamie Lee Curtis is wonderful in the whole movie, she steals the show when she is supposed to be the daughter trapped in mom's body, way funny. Lindsay Lohan shines as the parent in daughter's body, she hits a few snags playing the teen at the beginning and then hits her stride as "mom." What could of been ackward moments in the movie where mom's boyfriend tries to kiss a trapped daughter are handled with comedy and therefore made acceptable to viewers old and young. The reason for saying 8 and up is having to explain certain aspects of the comedy to very young children who may be confused by the body switching. Definitely take the kids for this wild and wonderful remake!
