Why We Rated This on for Ages 10 and Up

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Adult role models are largely absent from the film. The father of the two main characters rarely interacts with his sons, so the older boy takes responsibility for his younger brother (who acts and speaks much older than his six years would warrant). Other parents only drop in occasionally to demand more individual attention for their band-member kids. Glamorizes the life of a kid star.
  • Violence:

In one scene, an argument between two adult women ends in a brief scuffle with no injuries. A few brief clips of professional wrestling include some banging around.
  • Sex:

Some female characters dress in skimpy clothes, and the boys' adoring fans often flirt outrageously with them. One character jokingly references "boobies." One scene shows an adult couple kissing passionately.
  • Language:

Frequent use of "Oh my God" and "shut up" one exclamation of "Jesus!"
  • Consumerism:

Lots of references to products like Game Boy and Cheerios. Nameless soda is prevalent, so much so that one character's "addiction" to it lands him in a recovery program for "soda-holics."
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie

Parents need to know that the satire in this mockumentary about the highs and lows of young stardom may be too subtle for tweens without a grasp of the tumultuous nature of the music industry (in other words, most of them). They may only see the over-glorified celebrity lifestyle. Swelling egos and creative differences cause conflict within the band, including some name-calling. The under-10 kids on screen have very little adult supervision, and conversations touch on topics like how babies are made, homosexuality, hand gestures with suggestive meaning in other cultures, and (from a 6-year-old) the strong desire to kiss lots of girls. The movie is tied to a TV series that's better suited to the target tween audience.

s-t-u-p-i-d g-a-r-b-a-g-e spells Naked Brothers band

Just like my review for battle of the bands, its just about a little rock star and his love for Rosalina. This is just garbage and a waste of time to watch. I would rather watch Hannah Montanna ( which I also think is pure garbage). I dont see how they are so popular. They are just kids. They think fame will be with them all their lives. I dont think so. I feel stupid just watching it, especialy the rude crack about Jesus. GARBAGE! STUPID!

Tween movie better suited for teens

The Naked Brothers Band is a (fake) documentary glamorizing the life of two kid rock stars. It's supposed to be a kids' movie, but it contains a surprising amount of sexual content and other iffy behavior for one. 6-year-old Alex "dates" his 20-year-old babysitter. He also states that he would like to "squeeze boobies" two times, and gives a Chinese version of the middle finger to a fellow band member. Nat says "crap" and there is a slightly offensive joke about Jesus ("He's the best President we've ever had!"). As product placement goes: Cheerios, Game Boys, and what appears to be Sierra Mist. Nat and Alex Wolff are the two founding members of the most popular band around: The Silver Boulders. The band members are the best of friends. The only thing that could break them apart is a feud over which song they should play at their next concert: "I'm the God of Rock and Roll", "Boys Rule, Girls Drool", or "Rosalina". Since Nat is the leader of the group, he says that they go with his song, "Rosalina". But the others don't like how bossy he's becoming, and they quit to form their own band, leaving Nat and Alex with the Silver Boulders. The two hire their old friend who returned from filming his Cheerio's commercial, and Nat's crush, Rosalina, to start a new band with them: The Naked Brothers Band. While it's (for the most part) kid-friendly, the acting and music is absolutely horrible. Better-acted and sung, more kid-friendly movies that glamorize the life of a star are The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Hannah Montana.

I Saw This Moovie On Nick............

Kids under 8 probably won't care about this movie. Parents should know that there is a cuple kissing, Alex wanting to "Squeese Boobies," some iffy language (one jesus!),slapstick rough playing, and Alex's so called "additction" to lemon lime soda lands him in "sodahalics" for recovery. That's why I give it a pause rating for anyone under the age of 9 years of age!
