What Parents Need to Know
About The Other Boleyn Girl
Parents need to know that this historical romance/drama deals with mature themes like adultery, betrayal, and even incest. Still, there's a balance here: Characters who appear to value material comforts and power get their comeuppance, while those who display humility and conduct themselves with an inner compass appear to be spared. Although there are a number of implied sex acts and much discussion of adultery, surprisingly little is actually shown.

Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about the accuracy of movies based on actual events. Do you think most historical movies are true to what actually happened? How can you find out? If a film does fudge the historical facts, how do you feel about that as a viewer? In general, is history a good source of inspiration? Families can also discuss the relationship between Anne and Mary. Why did two seemingly close sisters drift apart? Are they depicted as caricatures -- one bad, one good -- or are they fully formed characters?

good movie
This movie was good but tords the middle of the film it got rather confusing and boring. Younger kids would not understand what is going on throughout the entire movie. There is some intence violance but isn't that bad. I say only kids 14+ will really only like it because it is really More for adults rather then kids.

Inaccurate but still worth watching
After I watched the movie I had to know everything about Henry VIII and everyone before and after his reign or related to his life. I have to say the movie is inaccurate in its portrayal of these events. Please do the research for yourself before believing any of the movie. Aside from that it is a well made movie. With the star studded cast (both actresses are on my top ten list of actresses), the beautiful scenes, and the basic plot were enough to make me want to see it again. It is not a feel good kind of movie. If you know the story, then you will be ok, but if you do not...well, you'll see. I recommend watching this film. It is very good, just not accurate in its historical portrayal. Also, do not let kids under the age of 17 see this movie.

CSM put it best; this film is engrossing...
Say what you will about this film's obvious tampering of history, but you can't deny that this period piece keeps your eyes glued to the screen the whole time. The costumes are beautiful, the score is perfect, the acting is somewhat believeable, and the script isn't too hokey compared to other costume dramas. Scarlett Johannson is beautiful as always, and Natalie Portman along with Jim Sturgess give great performances. The only problem with this movie is the casting choice of Eric Bana, who has as much emotional range as a flaming pile of dog poop. Parents, keep in mind that this is a mature drama; the film is all about backstabbing and sex, even though nothing explicit is shown. However, there is an implied rape scene, and two people are beheaded. One is only implied, while in the other, you see from high up, so there's nothing TOO graphic. Though, I doubt your kids will want to see this anyway. But if you're interesting, give this flick a try; you might end up loving it!

Rewriting of history for mature audiences only!
It has big stars, gorgeous costumes, and great acting, but any movie with a rape scene should NOT be PG-13. This movie centers on the sexual acts of the King of England with the Boleyn sisters, with one sister scheming to bed him and bear his heir and both doing so. There is plenty of sisterly whispering about sex, many sex scenes, and two seemingly unjust beheadings. Unless a teenager is very mature and able to discuss these themes openly, wait until at least age 16 or 17. This is a good movie, for mature audiences, and one more egregious example of the ratings board's incompetence. It should not be PG-13.
