Great kids flick with a great soundtrack by Ben Folds. Rarely a scary scene (apart from the bear at the beginning). Better than I expected.

What Parents Need to Know
About Over the Hedge
Parents need to know that this animated movie includes a fair amount of cartoon violence. Characters are crushed, blown up, flattened, banged, burned, and bounced -- all in good, Chuck-Jones-influenced fun. Animal protagonists steal food from each other and from unsympathetic humans. When a raccoon steals a bear's winter stash of food, the bear threatens retaliation and the raccoon fools other "foragers" into stealing food from humans to repay the bear and save himself. A human exterminator brings traps and brutal gizmos (his truck is adorned by a man slamming a bunny with a hammer). This exterminator suffers physical abuses (zapped by his own traps). Younger kids will laugh at the obvious stuff and won't get the edgier humor aimed at older audiences, so this is one that several age groups can enjoy together.

Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about the film's satire of life in the suburbs. They could also talk about the lesson RJ and his friends learn: that supporting each other as a family is more important than their individual desires. They could also use the film and its soundtrack to talk to kids about the greater impact of our actions.

Another great Dreamworks movie. I watched it on Dvd with my daughter. It is super cute, filled with original humor and the villians aren't too scary. I recommend this movie to anyone with kids 6 or older.

Hysterical!!
Best cartoon I've ever watched. Awesome hyper squirrel, evil wild bear, insane exterminator plus a opposoms equals pure AWESOMENESS! A must-see for the whole family! Only rated it as four and up because two year olds wouldn't understand much of the humor, four year olds will find it hysterical.

Boy oh boy, it's movies like this that make you want to wish that CSM had started from age 0 and not 2, but this program, the content, would make it so that if u wanted to come to check this reveiw then you are dumb. Its for 0 and up take my word for that. I hope u found this reveiw helpful.

Trust the ratings.... PG are not for 3yo's
Took my 3.5 son (to a free summer theatre viewing). He LOVED it. I laughed too. But for a 3.5 yo, there was too much focus on causing trouble, getting something that isn't yours, and eating all the wrong things. In the future, if the rating is PG, I won't take my 3.5 yo son.

Really quite good
I didn't want my 6yo to see this in the theatre b/c I find many PG movies to have behavior in them that I find objectionable. So when we saw it in the video store the other day, I told him we could rent it but I'd watch it first to make sure it was "ok for little boys". Well, I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, the movie is abt stealing and the lure of junk food but the characters are so believable and the moral so clear that I couldn't see a reason not to let him see it. I wouldn't recommend it for preschool aged kids who you've been able to sheild from anything except PBS and Playhouse Disney but for school agers who are used to watching Tom & Jerry, there's not much here that they haven't already seen. But it's much funnier. Enjoy!

Good movie, some issues
We have 6 kids from 14 to 3, which of course they all liked it. It is a very cute movie. The older one's laughed more than the little one's. The Bear says kill a lot & there is other language like butt & stupid which we don't let the kids say. But they have seen it about 6 times now & have not repeated those words. No swearing at all in this movie which is awesome. Adults will really like this movie as well.

Absolutely excellent
The filmakers could have easily gone over the top with product placement as so much of the movie revolves around food and, especially junk food. But rather than have Doritos and Pringles, the animals eat "the Chip - nacho Cheese flavor" and the imaginary "Spudzies". I love that they didn't fall into the product placement trap and kept their products imaginary. Great social commentary (man's encroachment into nature, our gluttony, and enviromental degredation), yet never preachy or heavy handed. Very fun. First movie my 3 year old wanted to watch multiple times. And her Dad loved watching with her.
