I love this movie. My 8yr daughter also loves it. She is mature enough not to repeat the mild swearing. After repeated viewing, she wanted a clearer definition of "groupie". I've avoided that one.

What Parents Need to Know
This review of School of Rock was written by Nell Minow
Parents need to know that this movie includes some strong language, alcohol abuse, and drug references. There is some rude humor. The overall theme of jettisoning schoolwork for rock and roll may also be a concern.
Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about how much Dewey loves rock and roll. Why is it so important to him? What does it allow him to express? What is the most important thing he learned from the kids, and what is the most important thing they learned from him?
More on School of Rock
What’s the Story?
Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, a musician who doesn't just live for rock -- he barely acknowledges that there is anything else. Like the music he loves, Dewey is loud, immature, messy, self-absorbed, passionate, incapable of complying with any authority, rule, or attempt at civilization, and just about irresistible. So he is astonished when he is fired by his band. And when his best friend Ned (screenwriter Mike White), a former rocker-turned-substitute teacher, says he will have to move out if he does not start paying rent. When Dewey intercepts a call from Principal Mullins (Joan Cusack) offering Ned a substitute teacher position for fifth graders at a posh prep school, he accepts and shows up pretending to be Ned. The kids and Dewey learn something new through the experience.
Is It Any Good?
If there was ever someone born to portray the true spirit of rock and roll, it is Jack Black. That is what SCHOOL OF ROCK needed, and that is just what he does.
This is by far the most accessible and conventional film from director Richard Linklater (Waking Life, Dazed and Confused) and White (Chuck and Buck, The Good Girl), neither of whom are known for heartwarming, feel-good movies. But that is what this is, a sort of To Sir With Love crossed with This is Spinal Tap. Black is enormously entertaining and the kids are terrific.

I rate this title iffy for age 8 and give it
- My concerns are:
- Inappropriate language
Rock comedy at it's f---ing best! 11+, mature 8-10
This is classic stuff. A few swares from kids and adults, like da--, a--, bi---, cr--, and he--. Also a coulple drug references (stoned, crack) and Dewey is shown drunk briefly. Surprisingly, no sexual content. Dewey and the kids aren't the best role models at first, but in the end, they show great messages and tell the school what rock is really made of, which I love. A modern cult classic, ok for 11 and up, mature 8-10 year olds.

WOW! A fun feel good movie that gives great messages!
One of my faves of all time, Jack Black transforms from a bad role model to a good one, good acting, there is some mild language, sexual references and references to a hangover, but its really funny and a really likeable film, it makes you feel good and gives you great messages, I love it, 5 out of 5, and ANY kid will like it, provided that they are over 11, 10 year olds might struggle a bit with the mature themes

bad language!!!!1
lots of swearing (yes even out of the mouths of children) adults say the words (you can kiss my ass, i'm sexy, i'm not a sex freak anymore, shut up, and hell) kids say ( shut the hell up, shut up, and stupid head, and ass) The badest thing is there learning all this from there teacher. and when a kid writes a song and performes it on stage this the biggest line in the whole song "todays assiment kick some ass"! This movie is a very bad influence on kids 10 and under because if they see ten year old and adults saying those words and that the teacher in the movie say it's a good thing to say those words they probably will end up saying them.

On of the funniest films ever!
The hilarious screenplay for "School of Rock" is made even better when the main character Dewey is played by the famous comedian Jack Black. Even though the movie is filled with laughter and fun, unfortunately, there's some instances of language and a scene where someone gets drunk.

funny movie, but not amazing
I liked the movie. It was kinda funny, and worth watching, but I didn't love it. The were a bunch of curse words, and and bit of drinking. It could have been PG though.
