What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Bob steals, lies, and kills lots of people. The government is exposed as a corrupt sham that kills people and leaves Americans to die.
  • Violence:

Extensive and graphic violence, including dozens of men shot in the head, with brains and blood flying included. Bob stabs several men, plants pipe bombs, and ignites napalm on attackers. Several explosions kill people. A man kills himself. The FBI torture another man and rig it so that it seems he's going to kill himself. It's implied that Sarah has been tortured and perhaps raped. Bob gets shot twice, falls through glass twice, and nearly dies when he drives his car into a river. Sarah must perform surgery on Bob. Images of dead and decaying bodies in a mass grave.
  • Sex:

Bob and Sarah nearly kiss, and it's clear there's an attraction between them, but nothing happens. Sarah is shown in several scenes wearing only jeans and a bra.
  • Language:

Some cursing, including "s--t," "goddamn," "hell," "asshole," and "f--k."
  • Consumerism:

A few brands are briefly shown, including Dinty Moore and Dell computers.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Bob drinks a beer and gives some to his dog. Later, he inhales nitrous to knock himself out during surgery. Johnson smokes a cigar. Meachum drinks liquor.

What Parents Need to Know

About Shooter

Parents need to know that this mature, graphically violent political thriller about vigilante justice includes shots of men being shot in the head, with their brains and blood flying everywhere. One man kills himself, and there are two images of characters being tortured. There are also photos of people buried in a mass grave, and it's implied that the central female character has been tortured and raped. The movie's extensive discussion of political corruption might confuse and/or disturb kids (even teens). Overall, there's no attempt at diplomacy, and violence is shown as the only option.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about why these sorts of violent movies are appealing. After a movie like this, how do you feel? Do you feel more or less safe in the world? Is the violence necessary to convey the movie's message? Why or why not? Families can also discuss how to react when you're unhappy about how the government is acting. If you believe, as Bob does, that the government is corrupt, how do you deal with that? What are the options? What do you think of Bob's choice?

    My concerns are:
    • Excessive violence

Good action for those over 13

I liked this movie and the fact that there was not a swear every second, plenty of action, anyone over 13 who can't handle this has been raised only on G-rated Disney crap! Dreamworks is better and more versitle.

    Great

This movie was really good, but might not have been appropriate for young children. There was alot of bloody sniping, close range shootings, and some stabings. But then again if your older thats the type of stuff you want!

    Very Exciting movie!

When i watched this movie I was definetly intersted the whole time! There was never really a dull moment and the movie was not difficult to understand which is what i like! Also I enjoyed the main plot of the story because it had a lot of action throughout the movie, not just in one particular part.Overall this is a great movie for older audiences.

It's not the most intelligent film out there, but Shooter is still a whole lot of fun. It's very entertaining throughout and full of amazing action sequences. Just turn off your brain and have fun with it. As far as content goes, there are a couple of f-words...probably around 8. The violence is very bloody but brief for the most part.

    Good filmmaking!

Very entertaining. If you can get past Danny Glovers lisp you can really enjoy this film. I liked it a lot. A steady pace of action and high stakes drama. the bad guys were really bad there was a clear distinction on who was evil and not. It was interesting to watch. Learned some things about artillery. A must see for Action Freaks.. Spectacular locations.

    Must For Any Action Junkie

This movie truly is action Packed one set of expolosions sent a chill done my spineit was awesome! As you know from the previews the main character Bob Swagger or (Mark Walberg) wields a sniper rifle and everyone pretty much nows that a sniper rifle wont just make a little cut it will shoot off a arm or finger or blast right through a skull so with that said the violence in this is bloody and counties throughout but is very good there is a government coverup like any government flick but is good.

    A Bold Film

Not only did Shooter attempt to show the corrupt U.S. gov't, falsey played or not, but it had a story along with it, which most people seem to leave out. Mark Wallberg's character goes through something very profound in this story, allowing you to make that journey with him. He realizes to let go of past griefs. There are a few problems with this film that include a certain sense of political tension, violence, and a somewhat violent conclusion. But this is countered out by the ingenuity of Antoine Fuqua, the director. Bravo.
