Parents need to know

Parents need to know that this sequel to the popular Disney movie Twitches features plenty of suspense and some brief fantasy violence (fiery spells hurled like weapons, a shadowy image that haunts characters throughout most of the movie, etc.). But none of it is likely to upset tweens. On the message front, a self-absorbed girl experiences personal growth when she learns the value of accepting responsibility and thinking of others. Other than that, aside from frequent references to cell phones and texting among teen girls, there's not much to worry about.

Families can talk about why stories about magic are so appealing. What would you do with magic powers if you had them? Families can also discuss responsibility and what the characters in the movie learn. What responsibilities have you assumed at home, at school, or as part of a team? How are your responsibilities determined by your various roles?

Message

Social Behavior:

A family is reunited, and good conquers evil through a character's brave actions. Her slightly self-centered twin learns that stepping up to responsibility for others' sake can be personally rewarding.

Consumerism:

A few characters are attached to their cell phones and do lots of texting.

Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco:

Violence

A vague shadowy form follows characters and briefly possesses two of them, but their actions are only mildly affected (a teen is inspired to insist on walking a girl home, for instance). Magical battles feature fiery balls hurled as weapons that knock people down, as well as perilous falls from heights. One character meets his demise by falling down a deep hole. References to a father's death many years ago.

Sex

Some flirting among teens, and one very brief kiss between adults at the end.

Reviewed by Emily Ashby

The made-for-TV Disney movie TWITCHES TOO stars Sister, Sister alums Tia and Tamera Mowry as Alex and Camryn, recently reunited twin sisters who are adjusting to their new identities as princesses of the magical kingdom (and alternate dimension) of Coventry. Picking up where Twitches left off, the sequel finds Alex and Camryn settling into the new reality of their double existences, having recently freed their realm from a dark presence. But it soon becomes apparent that their past actions haven't closed the door on evil in Coventry after all. A menacing, shadowy force begins to haunt the girls, as well as their birth mother, Miranda (Kristen Wilson), and it will take courage and faith from the whole family to set the truth free and rid Coventry of evil once and for all.

Is it any good?

Twitches Too is trademark Disney entertainment, combining a well-scripted storyline with clean, family-friendly content. Once again, the Mowry sisters steal the show; their energy and obvious enjoyment of their roles makes the movie fun to watch. Parents can rest assured that there's nothing to worry about here beyond some mild fantasy violence, which shouldn't bother tween viewers at all, and a few characters' cell-phone addictions.
