there are some iffy scenes like: when a girl shows off her boobs in her bikine to get the lifeguard Raymond to notice her, when 2 charecters kiss, when 2 of the main charecters fet into a big fight (just yelling not hiting), and some mild language.

Sweet movie about friendship
This is the only PG movie I have let my 5 yr olds watch - I am picky about what they see - this movie is adorable and sweet and all about the close friendships of girls. The story is cute. It is all definitely very "girly" and not something I can imagine any boy wanting to watch. I love the message it sends about friendship. There are some flirty/girly/innocent giggly/ flirtatious scenes that I am sure earned its PG, but to me, this type of a PG rating is a far cry from movies that are rated PG for rude humor or violence. This movie is watched with a smile, and is one that we bought on DVD.

Levesque, Roberts, and Paxton shine in cute fish-out-of-water tale
Sexual Content (Pause): Some kissing and flirting. Aquamarine is presumably naked when she is first on land, but no nudity is seen. Mention of boobs. Aquamarine is shirtless in the last scene, but her hair covers her breasts. Violence (Not an Issue): Some minor peril. Language (Pause): One use each of "hell" and "bitch". Social Behavior (On): Friendship, love, and loyalty are major themes of the movie. Commercialism (Pause): Morton salt, magazines. Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Pause): Joke reference to smoking.

Horrible Movie
I took my daughter and son to this movie thinking it would be a fun Junior "Chick Flick" and I ended up really hating it. It was too mature for my daughter (4 y/o) and not intesting for my son (8 y/o). What I hated the most was references to weight and the emphasis on looking a certian way. There was one comment a character made to another about getting fat because she ate too much and it was something like two whole bites of food. That really bothered me. My husband foolishly bought the DVD for the kids later. He watched it and also hated the way that even the so-called nice girls were mean to others. I took the movie away and replaced it with Whale Rider.

great movie for girls
ok, the acting is not great, nor is the script, but what a wonderful movie for young girls! i am a strict parent when it comes to what my kids watch, but come on now - girls do think about boys alot at that age! its a great coming of age movie. its clean and appropriate for most ages. what a wonderful flick to watch with your daughter or for sleepovers!

Should have been PG 13
I thought I could trust PG movies for my 6 and 8 year olds until I saw this movie with them. I turned it off midway through. They do not need to see an entire movie about girls gushing over boys at this age -- wearing tight fitting clothes with their chests hanging out. If this type of movie is rated PG I don't know what we can go on for this age where G movies are too babyish.

Great Message
This movie has a great message of friendship and caring. These girls help there mermaid friend, not only for the wish but for also just helping. I think this movie is great!

I thought this was a good movie for my 11 year old daughter. There are not many "clean" movies out there that are not promoting sex and violence for girls to see. Girls younger than 10 may be scared by the fathers anger as shown in a storm. I didn't find any moral issues or social issues that were worth mentioning here.

Yes...possibly the worst movie ever...
I took my my daughter and two of her friends to see this movie (all 9-yrs old) because my daughter and I had just finished reading Alice Hoffman's book "Aquamarine". How an author can allow a wonderful book to be turned into THIS movie is beyond me. Alice Hoffman's book was a wonderful story about two pre-teen girls spending their last summer together...no tribe of villainous girls, no biki-babes, no dumb adults! I was completely astounded that such a great little book could be made into such a low class movie. The positive message at the end of the movie (friendship is as important (or more important) than romantic love) isn't worth all the brainwashing of the previous 68 minutes...save your money and teach your kids this yourself.

Not Bad
I read lots of reviews- not a bad flick. Hard for parents to sit through because not well scripted or acted, but the message was good. Yes- lots of flirty teen girl behavior- but the boy is attracted to the "nice" girl, friendship rules in the end and all dreams don't come true. I wouldn't hesitate to take the kids again. Need to be ready to talk about it- not for parents who think all children should be protected from the world- but no worse sexually than Lady and The Tramp.

Possibly the worst movie ever
I don't mean to sound harsh, I have two daughters and I took my 12 year old and her like aged friend... I could barely sit thru this film... it was as weakly scripted as it was acted. Very contrived. If you must see this, wait for it to be on video... don't spend the big theater bucks on this one. you have been warned.

Not for kids under 10, but a great tween movie!
This is my favorite movie to watch with my friends because it celebrates friendship. It's just a beautiful story. As far as content, there is some mild language and one use of the b-word, (which is pretty quiet and nonchalantly used so it is likely to go over young kid's heads) a lot of flirting and frequent use of the word "hot" and there are a few references to female body parts (particulary boobs) and girls try to get a guy to like another girl, and a french kiss at the end, and some girls wear revealing clothes. But IT IS PERFECT for tween girls!

Fluffy and fun
This is a fluffy, fun chick flick that will make you laugh, cry (ok, maybe not) and (if you are a modern preteen girl) able to relate. Except for, of course the mermaid thing. Great tween-focused love story to watch with your friends a t a sleepover. P.S I am conducting ann experiment using the on/iffy/off/age button. I am saying on 9+

not too good.
eh...well, if you take your four year old to a movie about 13 year olds and love, what do you expect? plus if you're protecting your kids from girls liking boys, really. it's not worth it. eight year olds already like boys, and if they have older sisters, that's all they're going to hear about. my best friend's little sister sometimes overhears stuff on our sleepovers, and i highly doubt she's scarred for life. in all, bad movie, but ok.

I was wrong
I thought that this movie was going to be really really bad. But actually it was really good. It is about two girls and a mermaid learning about love and life. This isn't for younger kids because there is some lauguge.

Why do you all hate it?
Everyone seems to hate this movie but I don't. It's a very girly movie. The first time I watched it I was at a sleepover with 5 of my friends and we all loved it. The girls, Claire and Hailey, do act like normal pre-teen/teenage girls do. Parents just have a hard time accepting the fact that all girls do is talk about boys and all boys do is talk about girls. It's the way things are. I just watched this movie today and loved it a lot. My dad tried to watch it but after the girls squealed about 1,000 times he couldn't take it. I think that's why lots of people hate it but move on with life and stop complaining about it.
