What Parents Need to Know

About The Birds

Parents need to know that this film isn't dirty, gory, or any of the other things parents fear from brutal modern horror flicks, however some of the scenes, particularly the one where off-screen birds attack and wound screaming children on a playground, are downright disturbing. Most of the fear is derived from suspense.

I saw this movie afraid that it would be scary, but really, its an old movie and nothing really scary images are shown, but some are disturbing and not for young kids. I could take this movie, and I'm a huge wimp when it comes to scary movies.

See this movie with young children! it is appropriate.

I haven't seen it but I know it is PG. Night at the Museum is PG. This was made in the sixties, and can't be that bad.

    The Birds gets it right!

I didnt see this movie until I was seventeen, I had heard of it, just never watched it. It came on an HBO channel and I decided I would watch it, and boy was I surprised! It scared even me and I was almost an adult! I do love this movie though and have watched it several times since then. The only real concern is that the birds attack and kill people, the shot with the body who's eyes were gouged out gave me the chills. So younger children might get very frightened. Overall it's a fantastic movie, a Hitchcock hit! I couldn't look at birds the same way for a few weeks afterwards ha!

Great suspense, but maybe too much blood and horror themes.

Great thriller. I watched on a Sunday night on Abc2 and it kinda freaked me out. Good movie.

Not So Good for Young Kids...

Don't show this movie to young, sensitive, or particularly impressionable kids. You'll regret it. There's very little over-the-top gruesomeness in this thriller, but one particularly gory scene (a closeup of a bloody corpse with its eyes gouged out) makes this movie unsuitable for anyone under the age of 11 or 12.

    Not so scary to me...

Well I saw this movie with my mom and dad on TCM. This movie was really not that scary to me. But my mom said when it first came out it kinda creeped her out. I guess it depends on the person who is seeing it. The birds attack people many times, a woman goes in shock because a bird attacked her, etc. It might freak the little ones a bit.

One of the scariest and best horror films in years

I have to say Alfred Hitchcock's The birds was terrifying and suspenseful on every level. Alfred can build tension, fear, and suspense that clocks in about two hours. Perfect amount of character development and plenty of bird action. For sexual content, there is one passionate kiss. There are some mild sexual references and innuendo. For violence, there are multiple scenes of bloody violence mainly caused by birds. One scene involves a man that is set on fire and his car explodes. For profanity, there are no f words but there are some uses of damn.

    Good Movie!

This movie is a great classic by Alfred Hitchcock. I would say maybe 11 and up. Personally i was cracking up when the kids were getting chased. The only scary parts were when they show the man that has his eyes pecked out by the birds ( you dont see it happening, it just shows the man's bloody eyes). Another part is when the main actress goes into a room in the house and gets cut up by birds. Besides that it is not very scary. A 10 year old would be fine without seeing the bloody eyes. Just cover up there eyes when it comes and they wont be scared( they might be a little mad that they couldn't see it though! =D)

Um, the ending disappointed me-it seemed like the producers ran out of money to make the film and had to cut it off or something. Other than that very good, I would probably recommend this for 12 and up. My 8-year old brother did see it without any nightmares but I think it was too much for him. Some scenes were just too disturbing. Very interesting; keeps you wanting to watch until the end.

Pretty good, except for some very dated themes

This movie is just scary enough to be entertaining, but it shouldn't cause any nightmares. You might not expect a movie this old to have any language in it, but it does. Nothing stronger then PG language, but you'll hear a few "D" words. There are a few violent scenes. One body is found with bad wounds in each eye-socket, one man is seen with some blood on his face, and an explosion is seen from a distance. But I should also point out that no main characters die in this movie. Most horror movies have main characters dropping like flies, but this is one of the few that keeps the main cast in one piece. One problem I had was the dated social behavior. The male lead is arrogant and smug, and the female lead starts out the movie by stalking him to his vacation house. All of this is portrayed as cute flirtation, but there's nothing funny about a stalker.

Saw this at 10 and was sorta scared!

JUST TO SAY!!! READ THIS!!!! A GUY IS SEEN WITH HIS EYES GAUGED OUT. It only lasts a second but it's scary. The rest of the film is pretty scary but it's OK.

    Pretty Good...

It was a very interesting and unique film. The ending, however, did not impress me. Nothing changes or gets better or anything like that.

Do not let anyone younger than 15 watch this!

So... my mom and dad recommended this movie because they said it was a classic. overall it was a pretty good movie but so disturbing if you want to give your little kids nightmares for the rest of their life go ahead and let them watch this.. because even me being the age I am was terrified... and now i'm deathly afraid of birds!

    awesome show

I think that everybody in the world should see this show at least once. It is mostly comical and the violence is unrealistic. Although I would keep small ones away until they realize how fake it is.
