What parents need to know

Parents need to know that they may want to watch this movie with younger kids and "fast forward" the scariest parts. The evil force, Dark Heart, is determined to distinguish the world of these bears. He takes the shape of a boy and bullies a girl into helping him kidnap the bears and encage them. The cubs are rescued by their guardians, but only after a frightening fight scene where the girl is accidentally zapped to another world and only the caring of all (including the viewer) will bring her back.

Positive messages: The guardians of the Care Bears work in partnership to save their cubs.
Violence & scariness: Dark Heart in the shape of a boy kidnaps Care Bears and keeps them in cages.
Sexy stuff: Not applicable.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: Care Bear toys are everywhere in stores.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids

Families can talk about why children have different skills. Kids do things differently and at their own pace. Also, parents can discuss how kids can react to bullying behavior and why bullies act the way they do.

What's the story?

What's the story?

A prequel to the first Care Bears Movie, THE CARE BEARS MOVIE II: A NEW GENERATION tells the story of the origin of the Care Bears. We meet the first Care Bears characters, Noble Heart Horse and True Heart Bear. The adventure begins when evil Dark Hear decides to get rid of the world of Care Bears. He has the ability to take different shapes, including one of a young boy. Appearing as this boy at a summer camp, he makes a deal with a girl that if he makes her the "camp champ," she owes him a favor. He comes collecting on this favor by asking her to help him kidnap the Care Bears. We see their plan work and the bears are encaged. Noble Heart and True Heart come to the rescue, along with the girl camper. She inadvertently gets zapped by Dark Heart instead of the Bears. Only by the caring of all, including Dark Heart and you, the viewer, will she come back.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

This installment of the series has no connection to the first movie's plot line, and it seems that the real impetus for the film is just to get viewers interested in more Care Bear-related characters and merchandise.

Young preschoolers may be frightened by this movie, which offers very little in the way of learning. Parents can talk to kids about how the girl camper felt when she wasn't winning at games and why she wanted to be "camp champ." It also provides opportunity to discuss how to react to bullies and why they act the way they do. But if possible, avoid this movie. Your child is not missing much, and it will save you from having to buy yet another Care Bear at the toy store.

This is a good movie, well except for one thing - Dark Heart! He's just like No Heart in the spinoff TV series produced by Nelvana, but in boy form! The rest of the movie is heartwarming, with the introduction of True Heart Bear and Noble Heart Horse! Kids 7 and up should not miss it!

Pretty Okay
Its okay... but a little annoying, my little brothers love it though, they watch it over and over.. and over. The carebears look like they have buttcheeks (I'm just saying) and their tales look like fluffy tuffs sticking out. Cristy's pretty down on herself, thinking of herself as talentless, and she and two twin kids are always laughed and have to do all of the chores (Where are the camp counslers at?) The two people that take care of the Carebears had to leave to find Darkheart (the carebears are older) and they are very nieve, Darkheart wears a hat and they don't reconize him. Darkheart trys to take carebears and crystalize them, and Christy helps because he gave her 'talent' It shows Darkheart isn't all bad "Good or bad, your still a person" -Christy. It teaches pretty good messages, but mostly by the kids, the carebears are cute, but a tad dorky. Darkheart can be pretty scary to little ones, but as it continues they may begin to like him. He's a creepy dragon/tornado/wolf/fox/ and big smoke cloud. He also has a creepy voice when he's himself, but he is only a boy. Also, I must ask the carebears this, isn't 'staring' a little rude?

An OK movie!
My baby sister used to watch this over and over and over again a few years ago. It's probably the most watchable of all the Carebear videos I remember her watching, and it's actually an OK movie. It's not scary, but the talking star in the beginning's a little creepy so I don't know how kids would respond to that?

that i lovecare bears their awsome.well gotta go because i`m gonna browse on your website.see ya!

Not cute and cudly!
I stopped letting my 5 year old watch this movie because she was afraid of "Dark Heart" at bed time. This character sounds like Linda Blair in the Excorcist at times and basically wants to murder the Care Bears. It all ends up well in the end, but the journey is not a pleasant one. The later Care Bear movies are much more pleasant.

The Care Bears Movie 2: The New Generation Hasn't Changed or Heard of Explaining the Story, Much Like the Last
Though it has no connection to the first movie, Care Bears 2 : A New Generation is fun enough to entertain toddlers and preschoolers but anyone above the age of 6 or 5 will find this movie dull and maybe even confusing as it never explains Darkhearts origins, his motive, where the new generation of Care Bears came from, or where the mystical world of Care-a-lot is located, and why Darkheart needed to first make the girl camper trust him before he used her to capture the Care Bears instead of just forcing her to help him when he first met her or most of all just going ahead and capturing the bears himself as he certainly seems capable of doing it with his ability to turn into practical any animal real or imaginary (yes I am likely over thinking a kids movie but even a kids movie has to have some explanations weather they are logical or not). Also the other aspects of the movie such as the songs and visuals are practically the same as in the first except for the fact that there are now a couple of new songs which are in fact actually more enjoyable then the ones in the first movie where most of the songs sound like the person singing them had stayed of for 6 days or just had been really, really bored and uninterested.

Disturbing
I really thought a care bears movie would be harmless, but I was shocked to see a boy who was supposed to be the devil. The boy had red eyes and turned into various scary animals, such as a red wolf(or fox). He told the young girl in the movie he would give her special powers in exchange for something. Really, do you think a devil figure is appropriate for five year olds? I found this disturbing, and while my five year olds said it wasn't too scary, I could tell by their expressions that they were scared. Avoid this one!

I can't believe our society feeds our children garbage like this.
If you like movies where small children sell their souls to the Devil in exchange for magical powers, this one is for you!
