Parents need to know that love is on the lips of the Peanuts gang in these two Valentine cartoons. Charlie Brown is so focused on the objects of his affection, that he can concentrate on nothing else.
Valentine's Day is approaching in A CHARLIE BROWN VALENTINE, and the Peanuts gang is discussing what they will write on their Valentine cards -- and more importantly, who they will give them to. Charlie Brown only has eyes for the Little Red Haired Girl. Finally screwing up the courage to ask her to the Valentine's dance, Charlie gets a surprise. In the episode called "Someday You'll Find Her, Charlie Brown," our lonesome hero spots a girl on TV whom he has got to meet. He enrolls Linus to search high and low for her, and the two boys find that not everything goes as planned.
There are classic moments in these cartoons that Peanuts fans will enjoy. Who else but Charlie Brown would open his vulnerable soul to sharp-tongued Lucy the psychiatrist? Snoopy's valentines are hilarious, and Sally eggs on Linus to a breaking point. But viewers aching for some real Peanuts atmosphere might appreciate the other Peanuts animated offerings more: this movie is light on Snoopy's suave antics and heavy on Charlie Brown's neurosis.
However, those sensitive souls who relate to Charlie Brown's "deepest, darkest loneliness," will appreciate how he cons his friends into helping him talk to cute girls. As always, Charles Schulz's cast of characters are as frank as real children and as wise as adults. In total, these episodes represent a sweet study on the nature of unrequited childhood love.
Families can talk about crushes. Sally keeps calling Linus her "sweet Baboo." Linus yells in exasperation, "I am NOT your sweet Baboo!" How are we effected by unwanted affections?
Charlie Brown sees a beautiful girl on TV and travels far and wide to find her. If you were Linus, would you help him find that girl, or would you walk away? What is it about people on TV that can make them seem so appealing?
Charlie Brown and Sally watch good amount of TV, whereas in Lucy and Linus's house, they read or play outside. What are rules about watching TV in your house? Here are some tips about how to create a healthy media diet for your family.
