Excellent, but very dark.
This is a dark, dark movie. Not quite horror, but is right between PG-13 and R. I would have rated this PG-3, but it still isn't necessarily appropriate for younger teens and preteens. It's a very good movie, and even my ten year old enjoyed it. What is the monster? Well, it looks like a turtle without a shell!

this movie was a good one. but the whole movie is a home videoish sort of thing and cand make you crazy and annoying beacuse it feels like your not seeing everything but overal a good scary thriller

Very violent and intense.
I rate this title iffy for age 14 and give itThis was a lot better than I had expected...
Well, to start off, I found this movie VERY enjoyable, but I also found it very intense and scary. The camera is extremely unsteady, but if you watch it in your home, as I did, I think you will find that it isn't that big a deal. The language contaned several uses of s**t, as well as other swear and slang words. The sexual content was a bit much for a PG-13, I thought, but still nowhere near deserving of an R rating. The violence was WAY too graphic for a PG-13, but not quite an R. No such rating exists, but this movie is deserving of a PG-15 rating. Right in between PG-13 and R, this movie as well as many others, would recieve the rating of PG-15. To rate it with the ratings we have, this is closer to R than it is to PG-13. I suggest this movie is too intense and disturbing for kids under the age of fourteen.

A LOT better than I expected
I expected this to be another dumb monster nausea-inducing monster movie, but it was actually very good, and very scary. It is most likely ok for 14 and older, but parents should know that there are a lot of S-words. I was expecting them to use worse language during a monster attack, but they stuck to the S one. The monster attack I speak of was pretty bloody, and at one part that CSM didn't mention above, a girl that got bitten begins bleeding from her eyes, and she is taken behind a cutain and explodes, so you see blood splatter on the other side of the curtain. It is very brief though, the camera never lingers long. Despite what others have said, I mostly only felt a bit sick during the running scenes, when the camera was swinging around everywhere. The only other issues is at the very beginning of the movie, where the characters are all drinking, and quite a lot of innuendo is dropped. But as soon as the monster shows up, all of that ends. I had thought this was ok for an 11 year old, but it isn't. Now that I've seen it, it was very well made, and also too scary and language heavy for those under 13. At 12 your kids have probably heard all of these words at school, but by 13 their peers are already swearing like truck drivers, so they shouldn't have a problem with the language.

Edge of your seat
Parents should know that Cloverfield is not as family-friendly as the old Godzilla movies. The first 10 minutes of the movie contain a heavy amount of innuendo, but that stops as soon as the monster shows up. The language is very excessive, however. More excessive then in most PG-13 movies. But I have to give good points in the "social behavior" category. All of the main characters stuck together, even when it wasn't to their personal advantage. And one of them risked his life to help his girlfriend, even after he found out she left him for another guy. You won't find any disloyalty in the main characters.

Hmmm, Can you say Peer Pressure
I would give this movie the big thumbs down. The story line was totally unrealistic! The only thing this movie was good for was yelling at the screen. The characters make one poor decision after another till they all end up dead. (don't worry I wasn't giving anything away since the opening scene gives it away in the first 30 seconds) Overall not scary. This movie was like War of the Worlds meets 9-11 without the big actors. Some cool blood and guts. I would have actually liked this movie if I was 13.

Better than we thought it would be.
We were warned by friends that this movie was a stinker--but we enjoyed it--monster scenes were worth seeing--suspense and decent storyline once it got going--slow, tedious beginning. Some alcohol scenes and sexual content a bit much for PG13 but skip past that and then it's off to the creature feature...unless your tween is sensitive to terror scenes (monster). Effects were fairly good much to our surprise.

A fast paced nail biter!
Saw the movie with my husband and I loved it! Him not so much so go figure. The camera is shakey but I and my husband had no problems. (Which I can't say for the Bourne Ultimatum which made us both leave early sick). I thought the movie was very quick paced and although you don't fully see "the monster" it's much the same as Blair Witch which is a good thing. I was happy I didn't waste my money on a total bomb. It is, what it is, a fast paced godzilla movie. Loved it!

Weird Movie
Lots of blood and images that are a litte strong and the monster is only seen for about 2-4 minutes so it was a very dissapointing movie. don't go see it

I was motion-sick!
I took my 14 year old son to see this movie. We love monster flicks. We both left this film with the most severe headache and sick at out stomachs. All the motion and jumping around with the camea was painfull. Close to 3/4 of the way through I thought I would have to leave the theatre for the bathroom. I have never had this experience with another movie. I remained sick for most of the day and would not like to ever see this movie again.Blair Witch project couldn't hold a light to this ones dizzing effects! I did appreciate less vulgar language though.

Motion sensitive
The movie itself was a typical monster destroying city movie, but if you have any problems with vertigo, or motion sickness, you won't want to see this one. The constant movement of the camera made my son sick enough to have to leave the theater - he's 14, and not prone to motion sickness. I had a headache by the middle of the movie from the constant quick scanning with the camera.

Don't waste your money!
I did not care for the movie. The camcorder shots were too shaky and you could not see anything. As one movie-goer said at the end of the movie, "That was a waste of money!"

Its a scifi thriller. For what we have seen in past, its what I expected, not some scary or horrible movie, or a waste of time, like the reviews Ive read before I saw it.I found it interesting, my kids liked it, and the only complaint would be leaving everything at end to imagination. Why did everyone whine its like 911?...Did you expect a 25 story tall terrorist to be doing all that was in movie? If you know its going to be sci fi, then expect it to be sci fi.....

Good monster, horrible movie....
The high school drama party put me to sleep for the first 40 minutes. This time could have een used for a litle more action. The camera was flung all over wildly and you saw more shoes and pavement as well as indistinguishable images. watching this was enough to make you dizzy. don't waste your money or your time.

Interesting
This movie was a pretty good flick. I enjoyed the camera view of things. The movie does have some humor when needed. The violence is more monster related and humans fighting back. There is some 'gore', such as open wounds, blood, a 5 second anatomy lesson (no nudity). There is a scene of a girls bare back, implying sex, and there is talk of it. As for language, I didn't catch any F words but s***, and d*** are used, as well as 'Oh my God' and 'Jesus Christ'. It is pretty intense at times and can be overwhelming for some. If motion sickness is an issue, sit in the very back. If kids are going to see this, you know your kids better than anyone, so go off that. All in all I thought it was pretty good and entertaining.

Burning your Money is better than seeing this movie!
I thought I'd never see another mindless Blair Wicth project movie again!!! The full view of the monster was kept hidden from a moving camera. This technique DID NOT add any mystic, it just frustrated the viewer, because you wanted to see the monster in all its glory. The reality of this movie should have been and normally would have been for not only the US, Russia and any other country with nuclear weapons, to launch at Manhatten!! Cause if our state of the art weapontry is not stopping a giant bat-like lizzard thing. The normal government reaction would not have been to attach with conventional ground troops ....ITS A FREAKIN 30 STORY TALL LIZZARD!!!!! ICBM's should have been ordered instead of tanks and planes. A STUPID MOVIE AND A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY... Furthermore NO ONE CLAPPED OR EVEN SAID THAT WAS A GOOD MOVIE.

Best film of the year!
This has to be one of the best movies of the year. The way it was filmed, the devices used to tell the story, the style of advertising, everything made this a very original movie in a not so original genre. There was even a virtual universe created around this movie for fans to find clues about the background story, monster, and characters; something very rarely done solely for a marketing campaign. Credit should be given where credit is due! 5/5 stars!

One of the best movies I ever seen!
I loved this movie! I saw this movie when I was 10 and did not get scared. It might be bad for some kids if they get scared easily. But if you like thrillers and screaming movies you will love this movie. It doesn't make you scream you just hear a lot of screaming ;)

Good for teens and mature tweens
I thought that it was a good movie. The early scene shows a women in bed, but nothing is seen. There WAS a lot of violence, but it didn't scare me or my friend. It was not very realistic. I think anyone over the age of 12 can watch it, as the only scary part was the explosions, there was really no suspence or thrill.

I loved the movie. There are rommor that there is going to be a sequal or a prequel. It was really good and scarry. It was not bloddy or anything. It is like a endge of your seat thriller. I think it was a great movie. Don't let the youngest kids see it. I saw it when I was 12. I think that is the lowest age that should watch it.

A Great Monster Movie!
Loud, violent and scary. Cloverfield combines the first person feel of "The Blair Witch Project" with a monster movie. The result is a entertaing but forgetable movie, which is only another stepping stone for J.J. Abrams.

This movie was pretty good!
This movie was pretty good. it was scary but not to the point where you have t close your eyes. Although there is a lot of blood that will appear gross to younger viewers. In the very begining there is a little love scence other than that just violents and lots of death. Parents will have to decided on this one. 13+

boring, predictable. the overuse of the "believable" dolly technique led this movie to be a bore. it did not have to be a "home video." The movie would have gotten along just fine with typical techniques.

This movie was very thrilling and very suspenseful. The only problem was that the movie was taken from the perspective of a small video camera. The graphics were great and the ending is incredible.

good movie, stop giving such bad reveiws
despite what most people say, i found it to be quite a good movie, very suspenseful. even though people all wanted to see the monster, thats not really the point, as i said before, a really good movie, and you do get good looks at the monster attacking the city. as for the camera being shaky, its realistic, thats how it should be, not another regular monster movie. *spoiler* at the part in the subway tunnels i about freaked, it was awesome!
