Such a great film, and its my favorite Coen brothers movie, and one of my favorite movies ever. The acting is superb. William H Macy is so funny and sad. Steve Buscemi is super good also as criminal Carl, showing ruthlessness, but yet being so obnoxious and funny. And Frances Mcdormand as pregnant officer Marge Gunderson. She takes a much lighter, comedic role, as she cracks down the case, in a calm way. But she's also very funny and her oscar was very well deserved. The directing is so great too. The Coen's brothers style is so unique and just great in such small ways and they do their best work here. And their oscar winning script is so good too. But they way they easily blend dark comedy, bloody violence, and suspense makes the movie so original and a breath of fresh air. But this movie is very dark. Language is frequent, and mostly said by Carl, including many f***s and other words. Sex is not too big of an issue. Two brief scenes. In one, the two criminals are having sex with hookers, no nudity and very short. Second, Carl is having sex with a women, brief, and then it becomes interrupted, but no nudity in this movie. But violence is pretty bad. Carl and Gaer get pulled over by a cop with Jerry's wife in the back, Gaer shoots the cop in the head (point blank), then shoots a man getting out of the car that just passed them, then shoots a young woman in the car, that's flipped over. Carl shoots Jerry's father in law several times in the stomach, but the father in law shoots Carl in the face, and its very bloody. Gaer kills Carl with an axe, nothing shown because its blacked out before he actually kills him, then Carl is put in the wood chipper, very bloody, but also very darkly humorous. Also a brief beating, that's very funny. But violence is the name in this film. But really, you need to see it. Perfect.
