I find this movie to be fairly overrated. It's still pretty good though. The first half of the movie where they are in the training camp is brilliant, whereas the other half when they are actually in NAM isnt all that great. There is plenty of profanity and graphic violence, as well as some sexual material, though it's not too bad.

Great movie for older teens
The main concern is language "fu*k " and its variations are used often. Some sex references like "Eskimo pus*y is mighty cold" Im a march. " do you suck di*k " ect

Not as good as his previous anti-war film, 1957's Paths of Glory, but still a masterpiece.

Ok for 14 plus
Good movie very gory though in one scene a man is sitting on the toilet picks up an M14 an shoots himselt right down the mouth resulting in blood spattering all over the wall next to him. Lots of swearing especially in boot camp.

Great movie for people mature enough
This is a great representation of war. It gets more in depth on the training and how ordinary men are turned into instruments of warfare. The movie probably shouldn't be viewed by younger children due to violence and their lack of understanding for the significance of the movie. The movie itself tells of the training of a group of Marines and later depicting an event from the bloodiest battle of the Vietnam War, the Battle of Hu?.

Great!
Full Metal Jacket is an intense, graphic war film, and should be watched by anyone mature enough to handle the content. This movie was great. It showed the true horrors of war. The characters were all likable and well acted. Even though this may be a great movie, it can be very dark and disturbing for some. The violence is very graphic, bloody and realistic, while there is also very strong language and sexual references. Prostitutes are visible and sometimes hired by the characters. All in all, this movie is great, but should only be viewed by people mature enough to handle and understand its content.

Great film, not the most graphic war film out there
Excellent war film, I woud reccomend for mid-later teens mainly due to the language, expecially ethnic slurs. Most the characters die quickly, bloodlessly and painlessly at the start. However later several charactes die painfull and bloody deaths (one of the main themes of the movie is the contrast between the illusion and reality of war). While the film is quite violent, there is quite little violence for a war film There is also little sex, with only a few referances to sex. Several characters' names carry sexual connotations such as 'Handjob' and 'Snowball'

Full Metal Jacket
Loved it. Kubrick's best movie by far. The whole boot camp part of the movie is my personal favorite. R. Lee Ermey is hilarious.

Powerful vietnam drama has some brutal violence
"Full Metal Jacket" is a great and moving drama about a group of soldiers in vietnam by Stanley Kubrick. The movie does not only deal with the war itself, but also with the hard training. The inner conflict of the protagonists (one of them wears a peace sign, but also has "Born to Kill" written on his helmet) is depicted great by quite a lot of good actors. The ending scene is possibly one of the most shocking and intense of all and make this movie one of the most powerful and moving war movies of all time. It may is not the masterpiece that "2001: A Space Odyssey" or "Dr. Strangelove" is, but is definitely very good. During the training, characters get insulted, yelled at and set under pressure. Most of the scenes have a dark comedy undertone. Two violent scenes during the training are: (SPOILERS may follow:) -A character gets beaten with soap put into sockets by several people (disturbing). -The same characters kills a man by shooting him (some blood spurts in slow motion), and then puts a gun into his mouth and pulls the trigger (much, much blood covers the wall). (END OF SPOILERS) Then a long sequence without explicit violence and/or gore. A brief shot where a man makes fun about a dead vietnamese, very comical. Then in the last minutes of the movie, (SPOILERS:) several people we know from earlier in the film get shot resulting in large blood spurts in slow motion. Some die, some not. A man kills a young girl by shooting her off-screen (END OF SPOILERS) The violence is infrequent, but when it happens, it can be bloody. The violence, however, is stylized and teens will be able to handle it. There is typical R-language. Suitable for viewers 15 and up.
