HSM ROCKS!
This movie was the bomb! My husband Jeffery brought this home to watch after we got home from my daughter's pageant! The songs are really catchy- I might even choreograph a talent routine to one for the girls' next pageant. Also, Zac Efron is adorable! The only bad part was the catty Sharpay who constantly puts down the other characters and tries to discourage them from following their dreams. Other than that SUPER GOOD!

12+ Great Learning Experience
i personally think this movie was GREAT!! I mean ya the dances and singing int the middle of class it the musical part of the movie. I think that it really does give you a glimpse of High School Your going to have jealous girls and a lil bit of heart break but thats just life for you.. I think if anyuthing watching these videos should really help teens cause it teaches you that no matter what friends are forever and if you truely love someone and its meant to be they will be back!

Surprisingly good!
As a 40-something parent who has seen all the old movie musicals, and who is also very anti-consumerist, I didn't expect to care for this when my 7 year old daughter brought it home from a friend's house. I also didn't expect her to relate to the high school issues. Turns out this movie is a lot of fun. The songs really are infectious and the huge cast dance numbers are exciting and energetic. The messages are good (yes, it's a sugar coated view of the reality of high school, but hasn't that always been the nature of musicals? This isn't Blackboard Jungle here!). We even went to see the touring version live show and it was also excellent. Nothing inappropriate for kids. But beware, my daughter is redecorating her room wiht HSM stuff!

high school musical is ok for some kids. there is a bit of sex going on between two of the kids, even in real life. there might be a little bit of a riot when high school musical 3 comes out. i say its ok for kids seven and up if they can handle that stuff.

High School Musical
Sexual Content (Not an Issue): Some flirting, and an almost-kiss. Troy is shirtless in one scene. A song contains the lyrics, "Shake some booty and turn around". Violence (Not an Issue): None. Language (Not an Issue): None. Social Behavior (On): Messages of being true to yourself and doing what you want to do despite pressure from friends. The villains cheat, but they learn the error of their ways. Racially diverse cast. Commercialism (Not an Issue): No product placement in the movie itself, but High School Musical is a huge marketing empire for Disney. Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Not an Issue): None.

Commercialism Trumps Message
I really have never seen a whole show, but from what I have seen, it seems appropriate for kids entering junior high. I am astonished by all the parents letting kids 10 and under watch a show like this. It's not evil, it's just not for little kids. Your kids have only one childhood which used to last up to 8th grade at least. Now we have miniature "adults" (called tweens) who are being sucked into all the commercialism Disney is throwing at them. With all the other choices out there on DVD, I see it as just lazy parenting. It's pretty sad.

Good but not phenomeneon material...
This movie is cute, fun, and upbeat, but not worth all the attention it's getting. It's 4-star material the first time you see it, but after you watch it again, you realize that some of the acting is bad, some of the lines are poorly written, and the plot is somewhat rushed. The developing crush between Troy and Gabriella is believeable, not the kind of "fake love" you get with some movies of this type. The messages that this movie portrays (chase your dreams, don't listen if other people tell you you're not good enough, yata yata yata...) are good, but overworn by other Disney Channel movies, so it's pretty much predictable from beginning to end. But still, it's good fun and enjoyable the first time. Just watch it once every 3 months (your kids will want to watch it once a week) and you'll love it just as much as a 10-year-old girl.

Very good for all ages - even the little ones
My five year old son loves this movie. LOVES this movie. He watched it first at his dad's house. Judging by some of the things his dad lets him watch, I was skeptical. But after doing some reading about it, we rented it to watch together. A great movie for any kid who loves music and dancing. There's pretty much nothing here to make a parent cringe - even a picky parent like me. Sanitized - yes. And I do think it's true that most kids past about 7th grade would think it's lame...or at least wouldn't admit to liking it. But the message is good, the music and dancing are GREAT, the acting isn't bad...and getting to see your 5 year old dance and sing along is priceless.

a thought-provoking insight into life
I showed this in the 7th and 8th grade classroom. It was a good point of departure for discussion of movies. It brought about opportunities for agreement/disagreement on life issues for this age group.

A great movie
This movie is great for children of all ages. It's got a lot of harmless fun and songs that kids can sing and dance with. The actors and actresses in this movie are very talented and have excellent voices. The live show of this was also excellent. I would recommend this movie to anyone 8 and up including teens and parents. (just a sidenote I am an 18 yr. old male)

I cried, i Died
Majorly erotic teen movie which undermines all meaning of french. I usually like films but this one takes the biscuit it was just really really good. Sometimes i like it when people are moving but this blatently should have been a comic. After all international movies are always very good but this one is in french and doesnt have any subtitles. The only thing that was english was the profanity that they pronounced in english. The dancing was also a bit dodgy, they couldnt sing and they liked hippos with large tails becaus the main actor was a naturist. Fishing is fun. Best film ever XXXX

Don't waste your time
Sure, this movie is great for tweens, but for us teens, it is completely overrated! The whole "OMG Zac Efron is soooo hot" thing is really dumb. And also, a.) Who really likes High School anyway, b.) Who breaks out in song in class, and c.)I'm sure there's a school where nerds are also cool too. (I should know..... I think I'm considered a nerd and I don't think anyone in our group is part of the "OMG popular" group. HSM is a great leveler!

wow....:(
This movie is just, wow... Sure it's good for little girls (and i guess odd piticular little boys) but I'm pretty convinced it could brain wash your child. I mean It's truly stupid. It's like "OMG lets break out in song during science class!" I mean come on. Lets be serious with ourselves. I totally believe in children having imaginations, but what's wrong with the simple disney princess movies? We've gone a little to far.

!
It is great. HSM is the best out of HSM2 and HSM3. I thought it was great for all ages. I loved it because it wasn't too predictable. I mean, obviously you knew Troy and Gabriella would end up together, but everything else wasn't predicted. It was very enjoyable.

Pretty lame
Ugh. I hate the high school musical series. I just can't see how singing about your high school experience is gonna make it any better! Now, you may be wonde4ring why I put sex down as one of them. Sharpay wears some low-cut dresses and is constantly trying to "catch" troy. Also, sharpay is one of those girls who "must always be perfect" and, in my opinion, is a spoiled brat!!!!! For a family movie its okay, but pretty lame.

think again about this movie
I didnt care for this movie. it was cheesy to say the least. and i hate sharpay (played by ashley tisdale from zack and cody)she is just a big bossy "fabulous" fashion girl. the songs are innocent enough for 7 year olds. but i didnt really care for them (i listen to alot of techno to be honest) and mostly its just a big story about troy and Gabriela being in the musical. its innocent enough for 8 year olds. but some parts might be a bit iffy

when i first saw it, i loved it. after the second one, i didnt like it quite so much. its not that i dont like them, its just that it gets old after a while

this movie wasn't very good, it was very unrealistic in real life you don't just brak out in song...

"Omgsh Chad lets go break down and sing and make fools of ourselves!" Hate it!
Honestly, what is the point of this movie? Yes I realize a lot of movies are fantasy and they will never ever be real (which sometimes is better). When will we ever break out singing and dancing anytime in our lifes where the rest of the school mysteriously knows the words and dance moves too. It's ridicolous. Our future is now based on little girls who think that once they get to high school they will meet "their chad" and fall in love and break out in a musical every moment. I do apologize for my being so mean towards this movie, but I'm just being honest. Well congratulations high school musical cast and your achievement. Ya Right..hahaha!

Kind of boring.
There is way too much singing. I just can't enjoy a film where people start singing for no reason.

Not for me!
My friends cannot believe that I have not seen this movie. I have not gotten caught up in the HSM craze. You can't walk in to a Marshalls, Office Depot, or even Save Mart without seeing merchandise with HSM logos stamped all over it! If your kids are like my friends, once they see this movie they won't be able not to get that High School Musical wallet, purse and matching belt. They will probably be so caught up in having these items cheapened with High School Musical characters, they won't leave you alone till you give in. They have probably already seen HSM1, but if you can I strongly recrommend stopping them from getting caught in the net of HSM2 and HSM3.
