Parents need to know that they can expect the same kind of slapstick violence in this second Home Alone movie, mostly against the robbers who picked on the wrong precocious kid once again. The main character throws bricks, sets deadly traps, and more in attempts to stop the bumbling duo and is gleefully proud of himself every time they get hurt. Parents should also know that the movie opens with quite a bit of family conflict and that there's fighting -- even some physical violence -- among siblings.
Positive messages:Taunting and insults among siblings, as well as plenty of lying and tormenting the stereotypical bumbling bad guys.
Violence & scariness:Plenty of comic, slapstick violence: The main character throws bricks, shoots staples, sets deadly traps, and generally endangers the lives of the bad guys.
The movie is great. But there is some iffy content like: Vilonce: plenty of peril and vilonce. The end is most vilont when kevin sets bobbie trap for the robbers and almost gets shot. SEX: One of the robbers abiously likes a woman in new york city. But to get away from the robbers kevin touches the woman in her private area. She turns around and slaps the robber thinking it was him. LANGUAGE: plenty of use of "shut up." and name calling.
We skipped through the first Home Alone because of the profanity, and after reading several reviews (including Commonsense's review), I was under the impression that this movie had no foul language. NOT so! There's a very clear da**it and Kevin, the main character, calls the bad guys an a$$ at least two times. We sat down with our 5 & 7 year old thinking we were going to have a good, clean, fun movie night. What a disappointment. No matter how much we enjoyed Kevin's antics, we won't be watching this again.
Bigger production, same cast and elegant NYC settings can't save this preachy, plodding plot that ends with a stream of relentless and violent comic gags that don't compare to the cleverness of the original.
my six year old daughter walked out in the middle - too scary. my almost 7 1/2 year old son had a lot of questions (ie: how could they forget their son, what is kerosene?) and i am hoping he didn't retain any bad ideas. i think it is very funny but not sure i should have let my kids watch it. i had watched it years ago and didn';t remember it the way i see it now that i am a parent.
This was your average slapstick comedy and action PG movie. Almost a complete copy of "Home Alone" - other than the setting, but the plot, characters, and comedy are THE SAME as the first movie.
I love this movie also, but again Harry mumbles some words that are hard to make out, but you understand what he said later. Many uses of the credit card, but not a lot of consumerism.
I'm offended, and that isn't like me.
It is not the violence, it is the cruelty and the torture. I think that teaching our children to laugh at people getting nail guns fired at them is sickening. I turned it off in the middle and I'm still upset.
