Thrill Ride that WILL scare you completely senseless.
This movie is awesome. But it's very violent, has strong language and smoking is common (historically correct.) Keep in mind that even though it is PG it would definately be PG-13 or maybe even R today. A graphic scene involves a man going one on one with the shark and blood squirting out of his mouth as he shakes back and forth. A severed leg, a woman and a kid are eaten off screen and we see a decomposed severed head. 2 sharks are killed and are both focused on for a LONG time. Lots of Blood everywhere. For mature teens or people that love horror movies, this one is a must see.

An Engaging and Well-Made Thriller!
First off, parents need to know that this is a very bloody movie, and kids will find the opening terrifying. But, if you can get past that, you will see a well-crafted thriller that tells of a shark that terrorizes a small town and leaves a trail of human wreckage behind. This movie is filled with blood, body parts, and mutilated corpses. The good news: it's all apparently fake. The bad news: young kids won't know the difference. No, this film won't make you barf (unless you're extremely sensitive), and it's okay for most teens. Just preview it for the violence and language ("d**n"s, "SOB"s, one "f**k you" gesture). P.S. On one of the bonus features (goof-ups) a man says the F-word. Just warning you.

Good movie but lots of violence for a PG-13 movie. There's some scary parts but this a movie for 10 and up.

AWSOME!!!!!!
I love jaws and sharks. Jaws can get a little scary and parents i do not recomend to children under 11. jaws scared me less of sharks. Its not that bad but there is some severed body parts and blood. Make sure your child wants to watch it. (warn them is under 13)

Commonsense media needs to have an additional star for this one!
Without a single, possible, tiny doubt, this is the greatest movie ever made. NO horror movie can strain it's ugly legs to even TRY to stand up to JAWS. All you kids who say, "the special effects were awful," and, "I knew it was fake," and i've even heard one, "IT was all talk, no action," wouldn't know the best movie in the world If it bit them in the @$$! Great Directing from my best buddy (he just doesn't know it yet) Speilberg, and some of the best actors to ever hit the big screen; especially Dreyfuss, Shaw, Gray, and Shieder. All parents should MAKE their kids watch this some day. An instant hit for anyone in their right mind.

SOME SCARY SCENES BUT NOTHING EXCITING
The movie isnt as great as it seems. Well yes, there are some really scary and bloody parts for older tweens and teens who like a good scare but for the most part it's not that fun or interesting.

Really scary movie, most likely to have paranoid swimmers out of the water for months. But still a really good flick. Not suitable for children, lots of blood and a really freaky shark.

Scary To Younger Viewers
This is possibly the one and only case that I've thought that Common Sense Media was being to liberal. This movie absolutely scared me out of my mind when I was young. I was frightened to go into the ocean for about two years afterward. Don't let anyone over thirteen see this, and even then make sure they have a high threshold for horror. It's pretty violent, but it's one of those movies that can scare you without showing too much gore.

Great Movie a must see
This is a classic movie, the very partial nudity is not bad, the story tells of a large shark who terrorizes a small island community. It is based on the TRUE 1916 New Jersey shark attacks. Great if you want to show your kids a good horror movie. I saw it at the age of 5 and now I am facinated with sharks and are determined to stop them from extinction. Throughout the movie a Marine biologist named Matt Hooper tells true facts about sharks,Chief Brody show that bravery can come in all different people. The only bad role model is Quint. Robert Shaw does a great job playing a proffestional shark hunter (now ilegal in many countries)He swears cracks some innaprpriate jokes and is all around my least favorite character. There is some wine drinking but parents you can tell your little kids its grape juice:) So I give the movie five well deserved stars out of five.

great movie
I loved this movie! It was great. There is side and under female topless nudity. There is so much violence, there is squirting blood, there is red water.

More swearing than violence!
There are only three shark attack scenes and colorful language is scattered throught. There is, however, a scene at the end in which i found very disturbing. But, a good movie classic anybody twelve and up should see it! It's acctually more of a drama than a horror.

SHOULD BE PG-13
I saw this at age 10, and I was surprised with the profanity they used: here and there were uses of the "a" word, the "b" word, and the "s" word; plus throughout the movie was the "d" word and the "h" word. The violence was pretty intense also; the first and most famous scene was in no way violent, but pretty scary for younger ages; a bunch of scenes were pretty bloody: especially the final scene: the whole area of ocean you see turns from clear blue to deep red as Jaws descends. If they had PG-13 back in '75, it should've definitely been PG-13--the TV rating is TV-14-LV--but it should be a little iffy for an R-rating, because of all the blood and the scene when the girl's head and arm get washed up on the beach. Note: the theme song is not scary at all!

I loved this movie! I thought there was a lot of violence though. Like when people get eaten. But otherwise I think everyone should see it.

Kind of bad language. Very scary still gives me the chills even though I was 10 and now 13 and live in hawaii. Not PG-13

Extremely dull, actually. Scenes with the shark are interesting, and it's interesting comparing this to later Spielberg films, but little else is.

amazing!
It is great! It is a fairly scary movie even though alot of horror films today are alot worse. Some of the sceines are pretty scary like when you see severed body parts and in one scene, the shark jumps on the boat and starts gnawing on Quint. As this is happening blood gushes out of his mouth. Wow! And you also see a bloody head missing an eye. But nothing else really concernes me.

Classic horror at its finest! A true masterpiece!
This film is a masterpiece! Not only is it scary suspense wise, it is also scary psychologically, not knowing who Jaws' next victim is! The only bad scenes are one dismembered limb (medium gore), a man with his eyes dangling out (mild gore), and the end scene with Glen getting eaten with blood and no gore, Crissy Watkins' dismembered torso, and mild language. And even my 10 year old sister saw it, with out any issues! Great film for ages 12 and up!

Terrifying Movie
Jaws is a very scary movie. It is also very violent. There are lots of bloody scenes, including one in which a man is shown screaming with blood coming out of his mouth as he is slowly swallowed by the shark. Again, very violent. Know your kid.

Smile, you SOB!!! Watch it or get eaten!
Jaws is the best in horror movies. It's horror, but not decidedly so. Shark attacks abound and there's a lot of profanity. However, it's the best horror film ever made.
