Parents need to know that this playful video has both educational and fantasy elements. Loosely based on the Alice in Wonderland story, Donald and Mickey find themselves in an upside-down world where they have to shrink or solve riddles to get back home. Some younger children might be confused by the fantasy world, as it pulses and shifts visually, but there are no frightening or scary elements.
Daisy Duck is about to enjoy her birthday, and her pals are gearing up for her party. Donald Duck buys a very thoughtful gift: a cuckoo clock, complete with a cuckoo bird named -- you guessed it -- Cuckoo Bird. When Donald gets impatient and accidentally breaks the clock, the cuckoo escapes, prompting Mickey and Donald to search high and low for it. They find that they have fallen down a slide into an Alice in Wonderland-type world where they have to solve riddles to find Cuckoo Bird. But will they find the bird in time?
For fans of interactive videos, this movie will be a charming foray into the world of make-believe. For parents who adhere to the approach that lots of visual stimulation is not appropriate for their youngest kiddos, pass on this one. There's a lot going on in a short period of time, which might overload a young viewer's circuits.
However, the lessons presented regarding telling time are well done, as are the lessons about having patience and being quiet rather than throwing tantrums. Both lessons are age appropriate. And Mickey is a good and reliable teacher. Disney fans will enjoy this addition to the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse repertoire.
Families can talk about telling time. Mickey and Donald have a few hours before Daisy's party. They count these hours on the clock and the hours pass in the movie. But how many hours pass in real-life? What is real time?
Daisy and Clara and Minnie are female characters who are friends of the main characters. Are girls supporting characters in real life? When are girls the main characters?
Donald has tantrums when he can't get his way. How could he avoid getting so frustrated? When do you have tantrums? Can you feel one coming on and take steps to avoid it? What helps Donald solve his tantrum? What is patience?
