Why We Rated This on for Ages 3 and Up

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

The appearance of the cuckoo clock helps viewers learn to tell time. Mickey asks viewers: "What time does it say on the clock?" Then he explains that the little hand on the four and the big hand on the twelve means that it is four o'clock. Mickey also teaches lessons about how to behave properly in situations so that Donald can achieve what he sets out to do.
  • Messages:

Though Donald Duck's frustration leads to Cuckoo Bird going missing, the friends help each other find the bird in time for Daisy's birthday. Mickey tells Donald not to grab: "Grabbing isn't working," he tells him. This nugget helps Donald to bring the cuckoo bird back home.
  • Role models:

Mickey proves to be a good role model to Donald, who tends to lose his cool when he can't get what he wants. "Try being patient," he suggests to Donald Duck. When Donald follows this advice, he's rewarded.

What to watch out for

  • Violence & scariness:

Donald Duck gets frustrated and tries to grab the cuckoo bird. He throws little tantrums too, but Mickey teaches him how to be patient.
  • Consumerism:

Lots of Mickey Mouse symbols, like bubbles or computer screens shaped like his head.

What Parents Need to Know

About Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey's Adventures in Wonderland

Parents need to know that this playful video has both educational and fantasy elements. Loosely based on the Alice in Wonderland story, Donald and Mickey find themselves in an upside-down world where they have to shrink or solve riddles to get back home. Some younger children might be confused by the fantasy world, as it pulses and shifts visually, but there are no frightening or scary elements.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about telling time. Mickey and Donald have a few hours before Daisy's party. They count these hours on the clock and the hours pass in the movie. But how many hours pass in real-life? What is real time?
  • Daisy and Clara and Minnie are female characters who are friends of the main characters. Are girls supporting characters in real life? When are girls the main characters?
  • Donald has tantrums when he can't get his way. How could he avoid getting so frustrated? When do you have tantrums? Can you feel one coming on and take steps to avoid it? What helps Donald solve his tantrum? What is patience?
